What New truck

Would you buy? 1500 class... Realistically (if you were to actually buy it)
Been looking at an FX4 Eco.. Chevy z71 but I'm kinda steering away from the chevy.. It seems less on quality...
I plan on purchasing in mid summer..
Just want some of your thoughts..

Both are great trucks, the sales figures prove that since they are consistently #1 and #2 sold. However, I think this year Ford really put the $$ into the F-150. After driving an F-150 ECO FX4 a good ways it rode nicer than my Mom's Lincoln. It's definitely a truck I wouldn't mind having. I would recommend you drive both, but I really fell in love with the F-150 ECO wish I had more money.

Highlights of my Test drive were:

Ease of getting up to speed

Ride Comfort- I really felt like, I was driving a 4 door sedan.

Spacious cabin

Important screens inside instrument cluster-like an airplane

Back-up camera that is actually good- extremely useful for hooking up a trailer.
Braking distance

Steering- not overly tight but not too loose- it also had the adaptive steering feature to help deliver a better ride.

Gas Mileage it returned the EPA figures- Not driving how I would usually drive any of my cars.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Disadvantages:
SuperCrew cuts out the bed-- same for any truck. I'm more of a SuperCab fan.

Only a sliding rear window- wish they follow suit with Toyota and do the roll down rear window- Remember the Bronco's had that feature.

At 70+ it felt like it swayed a bit. I thought it was wind but after consumer reports said the same, it wasn't just me.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Overall I would buy this Truck in a heart beat, wish I had the extra cash right now to buy it.

It really depends on what you want the truck for. Are you towing with it? Hauling? Is there a weight you need to pull? How many people do you need to comfortably fit? How much do you care about gas mileage... Etc?

I've owned a Chevy Silverado extended cab, and a GMC Superduty dually ext cab. The dually obviously could haul and pull ANYTHiNG and was totally bad ***, but expensive to maintain. The Silverado was a great all purpose pick up I would recommend to anyone- maybe even better than the F150, and I am a Ford girl. But that truck took a beating, lasted forever, almost never had anything wrong with it, and it was so cool how the dual cab doors opened out. Excellent truck- worth a look.

I pull a 20 trailer with cabinets, nothing very heavy. Thats why I'm gonna stay in the 1500 class... I tested a chevy dodge Toyota Nissan.. The Nissan an dodge were the cheapest at the time but I have heard some horable things about a Nissan.. I absolutely hate the buying process of a vehicle they will tell you what you want to hear ya know?
Btw I had a 03 f250 (6.0) diesel. Bought new, put 180k on it. Changed the oil every 5-7 k. I had not a single problem with it.. But the up keep (breaks, fuel filters, etc) was an arm an a leg. But best truck i have owned hands down.
I guess I'll keep looking at the specs an reviews online for now.

I really think you will like the F150. I wouldn't worry much about the engine, they really put a lot of R&D into it. They used almost the same engine as the Taurus SHO. If it helps, Motor trend choose the F150 as truck of the year. I would avoid the Nissan, its not reliable enough to make CR's reccomended list.

Re: What New truck

You really can't go wrong with the new F150's. Performance, safety, comfort, efficiency, it's all there. There are so many options too...from the base XL to the 50k Limited that could put some Cadillacs to shame.

I know the F150 had some rocky times..04-08 had some engine issues and the 09/10's had some fuel pump issues but I really think Ford got it right with these new trucks.

I plan on trading my 07 in for an Ecoboost in a year or two without question.

Re: What New truck

How much are you looking to spend? If you're towing a 20ft trailor, I would go with a 3/4 ton PSD or DuraMax. I get 16+ mpg towing 7500lbs with my 2011 F250 PSD 4x4. You just can't beat 400HP & 800ft-lb of torque.

I traded in an 07 F150 with a 5.4 in it. Towing between a gas burner & diesel is night & day.

If you want to stick to a 1/2 ton pickup, any of the major trucks have the same capability so it really just comes down to what you like personally & what you decide.

+1....it all depends on what you want but if its reliabilty id say go with the ford. We have both F250s and 2500 duramax's @ work and from what I've seen the chevys run a bit smoother as far as comfort goes, but the quality of some of their parts is cheap. Things like the taillights n headlights break off their mounts too often and the suspension is a bit weaker but other than that the engines run good. So it all depends on what you want and the care your gonna take of the truck I'm pretty sure u won't have any problems with either ford or chevy as long as you take care of it.

Well I just found out I get a discount through work at any ford dealership so it's gonna be a ford for sure... Now it's up to a 150 or 250... Prolly 150.. Its simply cheaper, cheaper to run, an cheaper to maintain.... Thanks for the input guys.... Btw I do realize the longevity of a vehicle is 99% due to proper maintenance.

Yes & no. Cheaper to run, only slightly. I get 19-20mpg on the highway @ 65-70mph which is only 1-2 mps less than the 3.5L EB. It still costs about $80/tank to fill up either way. Maintanence is a little more expensive on a diesel, but you can cut WAY into that cost by doing most of it yourself.

And although the MSRP of a 250 diesel is significantly higher, you also have a lot more room for negotiation. The sticker on my F250 FX4 psd was nearly $56K & I only paid $45K for it. I looked into a similarly equipped 150 which was marked at $48K (it was a Harley Davidson model) and they wanted $41K for it.

Again, you can't really go wrong either way, but just don't be "scared" off...If you're going to spend that kind of money for a new truck, get EXACTLY what you want...or you'll be kicking yourself later.

I'm a diesel guy. So by nature I'm going to say diesel but buy what suits your needs. Although 500+ hp/1000ftlbs tq is quite tasty from an 08+ with the 6.4 with just a dpf delete and tune. The 6.7 makes pretty nice numbers too

No way, I don't buy it. I would put any 08+ diesel, Powerstroke, Duramax, or even a Cummins up against a Titan anyday of the week. Newer diesels make twice the torque of a Titan; once you hit boost, the TD will on the Titan in a heartbeat...Nevermind the fact that the TD would tow a hell of a lot more than the Titan could dream of...

This is in no way a knock on the Titan, but there is no chance that one will outrun a PSD or a Duramax/Cummins for that matter.

You do realize that a tune on a diesel adds 100+ HP and TQ all by itself right ?

Stock, an 11+ PSD is making 400hp/800ft-lb at the crank, so probably somewhere around 350/675 at the wheels...with a tune, depending on how agressive the tune is, you're looking at higher than the stock crank numbers to the ground...

A titan probably weighs 6500lbs...my PSD weights about 7800lbs...The weight isn't near as much as you'd think...Tunes PSD's can outrun Mustangs let alone Titans...

Again, the Titan is a solid truck, but it will not outrun, outhaul, or out-tow a 3/4+ ton diesel truck...

I almost had a spartan 275 tuned 350 on 38's and a lift out run me the other night. The cars not slow by any means either.
