ranger rear end

I have 2 buddies that have older rangers with 2.3s and I cant help my self from trying to talk both of them into v8 swap or turbo.lol.anyways they both wonder what rear end is in there.it looks similar to my 8.8 but never really checked or compared them.one is 89 and other I think is a 94-95.they may not do it but I will keep hounding them.

More than Likely the 89 is a 7.5 and the 94-95 could be a 8.8 but being a 2.3 it's more than likely the 7.5 One way to tell is the diff covers between the 7.5 and 8.8 on a ranger are different. Either way they are both 28 spline axle shafts, the explorer rearend is the cream of the crop where you can get one with disc brakes(8.8) and factory 31 spline axle shafts. Little bit if cutting and welding needed to put them under the ranger (or jeep tj ) you could always read the reared tags, they will show 7.5 or 8.8 on them if I'm remembering correctly.( I'm a ranger guy )

If you want, check their door tags and at the bottom it will say axle then like f7 or r6 or whatever. Get those from each truck and I can tell you what gears they have, which axle and wether they are factory posi or open diff.
