Rice by the pound

My friend is a big ricer fan, and his biggest argument against American cars is weight, he showed me that a CRX weighs about 1800 pounds vs our 3000 +, so I was wondering were is most of our weight? Were do the ricers cut weight? Can I put my Stang on a diet? Real comments only please nothing saying how gay ricers are, honestly they aren't even that bad...

not bad? the thing i cant stand about ricers is their big mouths not theyre cars. its kind of like those little dogs that never shut up but cant do much lol. but as for ur question, my guess is our engines got something to do with it. i mean they got little engines im sure that plays a little part. my opinion is because our cars are pure muscle and theyre just bone dry skinny lol

Everything is just smaller on those cars. Smaller axles, engines, rotors, body, batteries, tranny. All that smaller stuff everywhere just plain weighs less. Have you ever seen how tiny the axles and rotors are on some of those cars?!

The big weight differences occur in the framing and bracing of the cars. An older crx has a pretty flimsy frame and tub. They're also not as wide. The engine does make a difference and so does the extra cooling requirements. Our transmissions and rear end also weigh a lot more. As for a diet? Rear seat delete and removing interrior bits is all you can do without really stripping it down. Imo, stripping it out is just dumb. Ruins a car.

Well it's all how you look at it. Wreck a ricer and youll prolly die. Wreck an American car definatly most likely to make it...

I stripped out my rear seats and rear panels I plan to put a sound system. I like the look of it... In fact I love it.

Bottom line if it's not a skyline- I don't want a ricer. Skylines are the best.

Re: Rice by the pound

You're looking at two different classes of cars...compact/sub and midsize/pony car.

A CRX is a subcompact/compact car, while the mustang is a midsize-pony car class vehicle.

Vehicle class size is defined by the Code of Federal Regulations...so dimensions such as wheelbase and interior volume index determine the size.

So what this means is that weight plays a huge factor...a car with a larger wheelbase requires more structural integrity and bracing. It also requires larger wheels to support the weight of the frame/chassis, thus needing a larger engine which needs a stronger/bigger transmission to handle the power etc...you see where I'm going with it.

So in reality power-to-weight distribution is more easily achieved with the smaller vehicles, so if you can shave major poundage off a 3200lb car than you're doing good.

Haha. Sad to think about, but it happens. You should see the look on a guys face when my srt-4 left em behind in their GT's. It was quite a fun car to drive, but those little turboed 4 bangers were never quite....reliable in my experience.

I just can't stand the crazy fart cans. My srt's stock exhaust wasn't bad, but the guys you can here from two blocks away with an exhaust that sounds like a weed eater just makes me cringe.

I love Mustangs too.. For about 20 years, even have a Ford oval on my necklace, but that doesn't mean I'm blind, deaf, or dumb.

Rather unfair tho.. They are faster but only because regulations. Americans get ****ed and tuner do what they want.. Ford can't do anything about it. I'm sure they'd love to make something that can hang with tuners but regulations don't permit.

---------- Post added at 09:10 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:09 PM ----------

Ricers not tuners.

So honestly when you look at all the factors, don't kill me, ricer car would make a beter car... 140 hp - 1800lbs (crx) vs 190 hp - 3200lbs (6ers)

It's always about competition. It's not by what's fair. Just make your ride fast, and hope you have enough.

I'd be twisted enough to keep my v6 if I lost and make it super fast just to kick import as.

Fart cans, 2ft tall wings on a front wheel drive car, random stickers for no reason, huge tach bolted to the dash when factory tach works fine, duct tape body kits, crack head speedy turn signals, neon lights everywhere, heated springs to slam the car down, vtech banners, fake stick on vents on the fenders. I could be forgetting some well known ricer traits.
