So, I've come across this Old School BMW. I wanna pick it up for my little Brother. I've done some Goggling but hadn't had much luck and before I hit up the BMW Forums I wanted to get some insight from my Mustang Brothers & Sisters.

I'm not sure what year or model it isClick image for larger version

It's a inline 6, Auto, 164K. The body is a little beat up, the interior is decent and the suspension is shot. But it runs and drives ok, I guess.

What I want to know is, just by a glance.
What do you think this car is worth?
How hard are parts to find for this model?
Would it be worth putting a couple of grand into it to make it a good DD?

My last car was an E46 M3 and It broke A LOT! But all the bimmer guys used to say, the best bmw is one over 100k miles. Looks nice but parts will be more and harder to get. I wouldn't recomend if for a DD if it will be your brothers only car. Personally I would buy it for around that price as a fun car to cruise in. Hope this helps!

Yeah, my biggest concern was going to be the cost and availability of parts. The owner said he'd take $1200 for it but I'm still a little iffy about how well this car will hold up. Thanks for your help!

Nice little 3 series. BMW's are built pretty well, but when something goes wrong it's expensive. The way he dropped 800 so quick is a little odd. I'd say late 80's early 90's what's the vin on it say?

I think he meant "would it be worth adding a couple grand to it to make it a good dd" I don't think he was referring to the price of the car. For 1200 I don't think it's too bad of a deal. My friends got an older style BMW like that and hes had it for about 2 years. He says it's a great car.
