ZL1 10's already.

The mods that made this possible.

The ZL1’s mods include a Redline Motorsports proprietary camshaft, upper and lower pulleys, headers, improved heat exchanger, cold air intake, performance torque converter and Mickey Thompson drag radials..

And then one went 11.4 with nothing but bigs/skinnies..

They might actually put up a fight. Also the one that went the 11.4 was an auto. The thing I think Ford is doing wrong with the GT500. Not offering a auto version.

Seen stock times on stock tires of 12.2@116 with a crappy 2.1 60ft.

Me I can't wait to line up against some at the track. And smash them. Ordering more mods with in the week. LOL. Make sure it stays that way.

Re: ZL1 10's already.

that seems like an awful lot of work to put into a $55k car that already has 580 hp on tap. Still cool to see low 10's nonetheless

Re: ZL1 10's already.

We will see. The mods they did can be done for about 2500 really. So not a lot. I just hope the GT500 stacks up. I think the new GT500 will need to go 11.7 stock to compare and say all that extra hp and bigger blower is worth it.

Re: ZL1 10's already.

cams, pulleys, heat exchanger, cai, torque converter and dr's only $2500? maybe if you're very frugal, or maybe parts for a LSA motor are much cheaper than for our mustangs. That doesn't include any labor time either. Not saying it can't be done... also NOT saying its not impressive either. but it still seems like more than SHOULD BE necessary

The current GT500 only makes 30 HP less and weighs less and runs 12.4 on average. Takes bigs/skinnies/tune/TB/cold air/full exhaust to do high 10's on average..

A cam for a ls engine is less then 500 compared to our 1500 for cams. Stall 1000, and rest is fairly cheap. Maybe not 2500 but no more then 3000. A thermo is only 90. I don't include labor as I do my stuff my self. Oh and pulleys can be had for @100.

What got me was the cams and torque converter. tune and pulley and other stuff is understandable... but cams AND torque converter? You drag race a helluva lot more than me but that still seems excessive

---------- Post added at 10:55 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:55 PM ----------

makes more sense. cams for out cars are pretty frakkin expensive

They only have 1 cam not 4. And like said can be had for under 500..and you can swap a zr1 cam to this car as well. And change nothing else in it. The tq converter will run around a grand depending on who go with..they have more choices then us 5.0 guys

I also read somewhere that this beast is capable of mid 11s and can bust into the 10s with tires. Not including the 5 mpg better than the zl1.

We will not know for sure till it comes out. I did read a lot that it was hard to cool. That is why it don't have a grill at all. Can't compare them till its released. Until it is out the ZL1 is beating the current GT500.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. The GT500 needs to PUT the power down and this is where the ZL1 has the advantage. The traction and suspension combined with the weight and tires allows it to perform so well.

Why? Slap a blower on the 5.0 and save 30k. And be faster.

Rumors are next C7 Z06 will jump to 600hp and the ZR1 will jump to 700+. GM makes packages for the ZR1 to make 700+ with warranty

I hope they figured it out this time. I hate the damn camaro. only Chevy I would buy is a new Z06. Time for Ford to run things for a while. I hate how Chevy dominated the mustang from the early 90s up until 2011. Wasn't even close. Now that the current Shelby and 5.0 are so close they have to bring out a monster! Hopefully it lives up to the hype! 5.0 takes care of the SS and the shelby takes care of the ZL1, not bad if you ask me. For anything else, I'd put the Ford GT up to do work! Even top hear loved that car and they trash talk almost all American cars.

Re: ZL1 10's already.

I agree with the ZL1 suspension and weight adding to it's added traction over FI GT's or GT500s...but that also adds to the ZL1 price tag. Ford gives you all the power package and keeps everything else to a minimum to keep cost down. I'd say from what I've seen, most GT500 owners are more enthusiats than hot rod builders. All in all, you still own a camaro with cheap interior with tons of blind spots, but now with twice the price tag. Beautiful car though none the less. I'd own one if I could get past the interior. Love the C6 corvettes though. My dad has a '12 grand sport...blast to drive and very quick. He just supercharged it a few months back. Corvettes are in a seperate league though...not the best daily driver. Limited room, rough ride, same interior from the past, but one hell of a track car.

I'm about to. Still can't find a good shop and pin point what setup to go with. Low to mid 11s would be a nice base to start with! But then you gotta think how much further that new 5.8 can be pushed.

I agree. A good set of tires usually cures any traction issues.

2012 Shelby with better tires should compete with it- not sure which would win- keep in mind shelby has a launch that supposedly puts the power to the ground around 3200- havent tried it but read about it on here

The ZL1 has a launch control that gives it just the right amount of torque of the line for the fastest acceleration with absolutely no tire spinning... It makes for the perfect launch. But with DRs or even actual slicks the GT500 could have a chance.

you know the new GT500 will have it, and the BOSS 302 already does, so do many other newer high powered cars

All I'm saying is where is the driver of a car going? It seems the more BS u put on a car the less the driver has to do and in a sense basically anyone can drive these cars even down to a kid that traded a civic in on one. Its getting closer to taking the driver out of who wins the race.

I totally agree, there really are too many "high tech" features in cars nowadays.

Re: ZL1 10's already.

I get that but that's like saying that drag slicks are cheating and so is race gas and superchargers. It helps give an advantage just like any of the rest of these.
