The all new 09 Dodge Ram

Quote:
All-new 2009 Dodge Ram Breaks From the Herd — Literally

* First-in-segment coil-spring, multilink rear suspension fitted to a solid rear axle provides ride and handling capabilities unexpected in a pickup truck
* All-new, bold, powerful, “get-out-of-the-way” Dodge Ram design
o New, aggressive “grille-forward” design
o First-in-segment chrome-tipped dual exhaust styled dramatically into the rear bumper
o Best-in-class aerodynamics – an estimated .419 Cd
* Dodge Ram’s first-ever crew-size cab, giving Dodge an entry into the largest and fastest-growing part of the market. Crew-size cab accounts for nearly 50 percent of market
* New 5.7-liter HEMI® V-8 provides more horsepower (380 hp) and torque (404 lb.-ft.), with increased fuel economy (an estimated 4 percent)
o Shockingly fast performance: 0-60 mph in 6.1 seconds
* New interiors with premium seating, soft-touch materials, redesigned controls, floor console with shifter, and nearly double the storage options
* More than 35 new or improved features
* Industry-first RamBox cargo management system (crew-size cab) includes versatile, weatherproof, lockable, illuminated and drainable storage bins built into bed rails (a total of 8.6 cubic feet of space); pickup bed divider/2-foot bed extender; and cargo rail system with four sliding, adjustable cleats
o RamBox bins hold up to 10 cases of 12-ounce beverages, or other gear for work or leisure
* First-in-segment “store in the floor” storage bins with removable liners, big enough for ten 12-ounce beverages and ice
* First-in-segment heated and ventilated front seats
o Heated rear seats also available
o Heated steering wheel a first for any Chrysler LLCvehicle
* First-in-segment live SIRIUS Backseat TV™
* First-in-segment surround-sound audio system
* More than 30 safety features, including standard four-wheel Anti-lock Brake System and Electronic Stability Program with Hill Start Assist and Trailer Sway Control
* All-new 2009 Dodge Ram to arrive this fall
* Light-duty diesel to arrive after 2009; two-mode hybrid powertrain to be offered in 2010 model year

This part cracks me up, I love how they mentioned how many cases it will hold lol:

I think it is pretty sweet. I like it a lot.

Have you seen the 09? It's going to take a long time for it to grow on me, if it does. However my dad will probably be getting an 09 f150.

There isn't a truck made after 1999 I would own right now. Too much **** on them. Give me a loud engine, loud tires, manual tranny and transfer case, and steel bumpers.

I do think thats an attractive looking truck. I wonder how good it will tow and carry a load in the bed with rear coil springs instead of leaf springs?

Hard to say, but definitely gives it an advantage when building a sport truck.

I'm talking more of the gadgets, widgets, cameras, all that kind of garbage that I don't need. Seat warmers? wtf? New trucks break down too, and don't even get me started on the cost to fix one of those, good lord, with all the electronics and such screw that.

You don't have to buy a new truck with all the cameras and ****. You can get a base model F-150 that's just a truck.

There is still a ton of electronic crap that comes with all new trucks, base model or not, that are a bear to deal with. I'm not saying I wouldn't get one if I could, they are definitely nice, I just prefer the older trucks.

A base model 08/09 truck will not stand up to what an early 90's truck will. There is no way. Once they learn to start putting steel bumpers and vinyl floors back in trucks we'll be ok. Carpet in a truck is pointless, so is backup sensors, heated mirrors, heated seats, etc etc. There's just no point, more to break is all it is.

I wish we could get away from computers controlling everything with cars again. I see no real gain from it to be honest. What's wrong with the early fuel injection systems?

Gas mileage. I'm not sure if you noticed but gas is over $3 dollars a gallon and not showing any signs of decreasing. No matter how bad you want to believe that it's not a big deal it is.

I just think gas is finally catching up with everything else in the US. It's taken a while but we're finally paying fair market value for it. I don't see gas getting much lower than it is now again. To be honest though..how many people who have a full size truck actually use it? If you're gonna buy it, you gotta learn to pay the price. Just like the car I bought, yeh I know it's gonna cost me a butt load more in gas, but O well, pay to play.

Re: The all new 09 Dodge Ram

It's catching up with everything else in the US because everything else in the U.S. is going to **** too. The economy is on the brink of one of the worst recessions in the U.S. history and no one seems to give a ****. We borrow from China to fight a bunch of ragheads in the Middle East that shouldn't have anyway to get into this country if we stopped wasting all our money over there on an endless war and then used that money to stop the damn Mexicans from invading our country.

/Rant

So about them trucks....

My truck has a vinyl floor Part of why I got an edge instead of an xlt.

Re: The all new 09 Dodge Ram

Have ya'll bumped your heads. A modern day truck will wear a old truck out in every catagory.

If you want to build a truck to beat up offroad a old one with a solid front axle might be better, but other than that, no.

Apparently you don't know many people who actually use trucks. Give one of these new trucks to a farmer down here and he'll have those side boxes broken in a week and the doors falling off. They used to be able to get 5-6 years out of a truck with 250+k on them, now they have to get a new truck every year or two because they just don't last. Engines, trannies, bodies, all of it.

And if we're gonna argue gas mileage...you can get 25mpg out of a 92 Z71 with the 350. Been there, done that.

Boss I live in the middle of the country so you ain't telling me nothing. I know a bunch of farmers. My dad is basically a farmer in his off time, and the biggest POS I have ever seen was his old 95 Silverado 3500, his 01 Ram 3500 is many times nicer, and just a much stronger truck. The side boxes(your talking about the plastic on top of the bed right?) on his 97 F150 are still in pretty good shape with over 200k on them. Modern trucks have much better frames, suspensions, and drivetrains.

I was talking about the flip open boxes in the bed of that new ram. I work out of an 05 chevy everyday and I'd much rather have an older truck. Too much to go wrong with this one.

Re: The all new 09 Dodge Ram

my dad uses his 2002 F250 all the time (and yeah, we live on a farm). Why would you want to abuse the truck to the point of failure? That's retarded... if you have an oversized load, put it on a trailer. It's easier to load and unload, and you don't have to worry about breaking out the sides of the truck...

And yes, my dad has bent the bed of the truck with a round bale of hay... on his 1994 F-350. that truck had steel bumpers and everything 460 v-8 dually lol. And from that... lesson learned, all round bales go on a car trailer. I can tell you this much, the 1997 F150 I drove throughout high school, put up with more **** than any other vehicle I've ever heard of. I got it with 20,000 miles on it, and in 3 years, it got up to 168,000... every weekend we used it to haul several tons on a car trailer... and it still pulled down 22 mpg. That truck hit 3 deer (one by me)... hard enough to kill every one of them, and had 3 dents in the bumper, a cracked grill and broken head light. So I believe trucks are getting better and better. If you don't like heated seats and mirrors and what not.. don't get them. But I would personally prefer heated mirrors up here when there's ice everywhere and most people leave their trucks outside.

So why is it now a days that most companies that have fleet vehicles just buy new ones every two years instead of paying to maintain them longer....

Re: The all new 09 Dodge Ram

We have a fleet of over 20 trucks at work...we have a 97 F150 that has outlasted several of the newer trucks. 210k and it keeps on rockin. The new trucks we have we are having to retire every 100k or so, or every 3 years pretty much.
