I have an escort s2. I bought off a friend brand new in the box. $200. I've had a cheap 40 dollar one and it sucked. You have to spend at least 100 for a good one. Anyway, my s2 can pick up cops from over 3/4 mile away. State troopers....30 feet.

I have a beltronics 995 I brought off of Craig's list for $150. The thing is. Lot of cops don't drive with their radars on, especially not all the time. But I have had my radar pick up state troopers before I ever saw them and once it didn't pick up 2 state troopers until I was super close to them but I was coming over a hill which no doubt blocked signal. I feel a little safer with it buy still keep my eyes peeled and try to use common sense.

Same here. Around a turn it picks up fairly well. I just speed 10-15 over. Nothing more with it. And keep it high not low for the neat signal.

I really want one of those! All I hear are great things. A guy on Craigslist was selling one for $300 but they way he was advertising it seemed a little fishy so I didn't bite.

I have a Valentine also! I love it, just before you but it, ask for the serial code number. then go
to the valentine website and check and see if it's pretty new! but I love mine, if the cop is running radar, I pick it up a good mile away.

I forgot the name brand of mine, but I've got one of the newest ones. The cost was like $150. It has radar and laser. Just for the heck of it for those who don't know here's what they stand for.. Re: Radar/laser detectors

Radar detectors are absolutely pointless. Why? The radar detector is tripped when a radar gun is aimed at it, well, if you are speeding, its to late. The cop has you, so slowing down when the detector goes off does nothing. Save your money.

A quality radar detector can pick up a cop using a radar gun almost a half mile before he can detect you, so giving the vehicle with the radar detector plenty of time to slow down if he is alert to the radar tone. Now! If a cop is using Laser he can point and shoot as you go by his usually hidden position. So when u hear your laser tone go off on you detector, he's got you

They can be a big help but these cops know that we use them so they will turn there's at the last second and when you pick them up it's to late. But they can be helpful in areas that leave their radar on. I say I you got the extra cash. Invest into the valentine 1!!!

Actually!!!, mine has a K band that lets you know radar is present. KA band for when your actually being aimed at. It will flash the K a good 1/2-3/4 mile away but when in range it will switch to a different sound and KA. Nuff said

Also my escort seems to be lacking nowadays. I've heard, so correct me if I'm wrong, that cops update their blockers or whatever they have every few months. And I've had my escort for over a year

Poo! I see that they have devices that can detect radar detectors in your car (if they are on). I was planing to get one, but hide it in a strategic place or get one that has remote sensors (if they still make those). They usually get PO'd when they see you have a radar detector.

Most new radar detectors detect both radar and laser, but detecting laser is tricky and usually once the laser warning goes off its too late unless the signal is bouncing off of cars being targeted in front of u.

Most new radars use something I think is called V2 which makes them undetectable to radar detector detectors lol. However most cops do give u a harder time if u r stopped with one in the windshield.

True, but their are only 3 places in the US where you cant use a radar/laser detector legally. Jammers are a different story. Read below.

Radar Detector Laws By State
Pages
1 State
2 Commercial Vehicles
3 Military Bases
Radar detector laws by state
The use of a radar detector in a passenger vehicle is legal in all states with the exception of Virginia, Washington DC. and while on military bases.
In Canada, the only three provinces that allow their use are Alberta, British Columbia and Saskatchewan.
Many overseas countries also ban their use, such as Portugal, Finland and Spain.
In areas that radar detectors are illegal, law enforcement use a device called the Spectre that is able to detect the use of radar detector in your car or truck. For more information on the Spectre, click here.
Laser Jammers and Radar Jammers are illegal in the states of Nebraska, Minnesota, Utah, California, Oklahoma, Virginia, Colorado, Illinois and Washington DC.

Mine has a blocker in it so they can't see if I have one. And the way my mount looks, it looks like a gps mount. Being its wireless I can take it out and put it in my console to hide it.

Re: Radar/laser detectors

IMO, I would rather have a radar/laser jammer. I think it would be more effective then a radar/laser detector. I live in Texas, so are they legal? Does anyone know a good one?

Re: Radar/laser detectors

Ok, so I did some research, I was thinking about getting a K40 Laser Defuser EX2 Laser Jammer. This would prevent the cops from seeing my speed. It got good reviews, until I found out that they are illegal in Texas. *sigh* Looks like I will have to follow the speed limit
