Well you must not live in California because I see gto's all day long they are all over southern cali!!! I don't disagree with you the gto looks like a pontiac gto looks like a grand prix but I still think it wasnt a a total flop, the reason it wasnt successful is because they over priced the car from the beginning! I think the gto wasn't holding true to its heritage but they still are a force to be dealt with on the road! The fox body is alright I still have a 89 GT but I'm just saying does the fox body look like a classic Mustang? No but it just happen to catch on and why? Because the Mustang is and always will be known as the poor man's sports car!

Yea I see gto around all the time in Cali as well. When they came out from 04-06 no mustang could compete with it besides the cobra.

And yet Ford sold way more mustangs in 04 to 06 than Pontiac sold its GTO. Even with all that performance the GTO offered it still was a flop. And here in Maryland, there practically non existent. A evo is fast but bottom line its not a iconic American muscle car like the stang and its a ugly box that's fast. The GTO is nothing more than a fast bubble that was way overpriced and made like garbage.

Exactly it was overpriced. If it was priced around the same range as 04-06 gt's I felt it would of sold more. I would rather of gotten a ws6

So, do you think that's overpriced for your GTO. You can get fully loaded 5.0's for 37 or 38k.

A "fully" loaded 5.0 will set you back over 40k

Prices of cars now is ridiculous. My cobra was 39k fully loaded. Only option it doesn't have was anniv package. There's no way on earth i'd pay 40k for a gt. Hell, my wife's fully loaded 04gt prem was 27

Yup, they are really proud of them these days. My 92 GT brand new was just over $18K. That's a perfect price for that car. All of them are over-priced these days.

I've had four friends over the years who purchased gto's three of them were the 6.0 one of them a 5.7. No lie 4 for 4 had severe rear end problems with less than 20k on the dash. But I guess my 2011 5.0 hasn't really passed the test of time only 16k miles. Knock on wood I've had no problems yet.
You mean like the dozen or so TSBs that were issued for the 5.0 in the first year? It didn't stand the test of launch, let alone time.

Agreed... and Ford wonders why young people aren't buying Mustangs. They should fire all their marketing people if they can't figure that one out.

And yet the Mustang sells like crazy for similar price as the GTO did. That's my point, people didn't want a GTO because it looks like garbage and it was an embarrassment to the original GTO. It wasn't the price of the GTO people didn't like or willing to spend. The car looks like a$$ wrapped in a bubble and threw on GTO emblems.

People are spending 40k plus all day long on mustangs and camaro's and don't blink an eye. I can't go 15 minutes down the road and not see a newer mustang 5.0 or Camaro. Yet I can go months and not see one GTO and that's on major highways out my way. It wasn't the price that didn't sell them.

yeah the gto is ugly. but who cares. its definitly a fast car. its basically a corvette. its capable of running a 13.1 with a good driver. the point is becareful playing with it if you arent a good driver, but dont buy one cause they can be mistakened for cavaliers.

They may run a 13.1 in the 1/4. Heck with the right amount of money one may get a Pontiac Sunfire to run the 1/4 mile in 12.5 if they drop enough cash in it. But, its still a crappy a$$ sunfire. I don't care how fast it is. Ugly is ugly, its just a fast ugly turd instead of slow ugly turd. You can make most cars fast but its not just fast. Its the look along with the speed.

Heck, I bet my 11 v6 could run 13.5 or 13.6 1/4 and I paid under 25K with my mods and the 43 k car is running 13.1 in the 1/4. Really!

The two goats I saw at our track over the summer ran mid to upper 12's pretty consistently. There were G8's doing the same out there too. The G8's were pretty good looking family cars IMO. The goats are just plain ugly.

I'd take a G8 over the GTO any day ... Those things can get nasty.

The gto and g8 are essentially the same exact drive train. Just different bodies I believe.

Lol, GM has a history (maybe Ford too) of totally blowing up a classic car name.

Nova anyone?

Yup, that was a shame too. I think they could have had an opportunity to compete with the CTSV coupe with the Thunderbird name. Instead, it died with those body styles.
