And I would personally call a mustang a muscle/pony car (v6 and v8). It is engineered to be a very well balanced muscle car.

Sports cars are engineered differently. Right or wrong, Nissan markets, prices, and sells the z to a different market. And it is in my opinion a sports car.

Perhaps those in the tuner world hold the Nismo in their eyes like we do the Boss or Shelby. And they sit around asking why would anyone buy a mustang (v6 or 8).

Everyone has an opinion. Yes, sales are different but again, different markets/categories.

Can't we all just get along?
Totally agree. I can whole heartedly agree that it is a great car. But the other individual said that it is worth the money. Which means it has real world value for the money.

I think it is all about exclusivity, brand, and a just because kind of thing. I love the Maserati Quattroporte, but I know it is a terrible real world value decision. M5, AMG Merc, so many others are better. I love it, but it is NOT worth the money brand new.

I feel insulted on a forum of Mustang owners, that a Z is worth so much more when it is so similar. I understand brand, and being intangibly different. But parts, work, engineering, performance, I can't see 14+k difference.

I did find one thing that might be different, which is length between axles. Shorter wheel base may be there.

The Z is only worth 10 to 20k more than other sports like cars to 6,099 customers who purchased it this 2012 year. The Z only sold around 7,000 units last 2011 year. Clearly not many customers in the entire United States feel the Z is worth that kind of $$$$$$. If they did, the sales numbers for it would be way up. People here in the US are dropping 30k plus into Camaro's, Mustangs, Chargers and Challengers like its going out of style. People dropping 70k for Vettes that are outselling the Z car and yet that's way less. Clearly, Ford is doing something right when there mustangs are selling around 80,000 plus units a year.

Most people don't want a Z car. Large majority of people who are looking for a high performance sports like vehicle want an American musscle, pony car. They want, Mustang, Camaro, Charger or Challenger. You pull up to a stop light and the pony car gets the double or triple look. The iconic Mustang. No (ricer) Z or Audi TT can top the image and style of the American Muscle car. The ladies love the pony because its just raw bad A$$ power. The stang is $ex on wheels.

I think it could sell more for a similar price. The Z should base at 27 ish. I would think that would cover costs, and price goes upnfrom there. I doubt they care to sell many.

It does have some exclusivity. Rear world value? Not worth it. But for brand and prestige, I get the price. But even with autocross, it is not 14k more.

I like and respect the car. agree it is better than the Base v6, but looks and fuel efficiency keeps me at the Stang.

Sports cars are different than muscle/pony/family cars.

I'm a bit drunk, so excuse the blunt-ness... but is your Mustang the "sportiest" car you've ever owned? Have you ever owned/driven a dedicated sports car?

Dude, I JUST realized your name says Guy in it. I'm sorry lol. That probably came off really rude before, please excuse me.

Yes, the Mustang is. I have driven a 95 electric red (pink) escort hatch for the past five years to save my money.

I do think the 370 Z will smoke this one thing over the Mustangs. Your bank account by 10 to 20K. Full to empty very quick. I wonder if Nissan gives you a bottle of lube with every purchase. Oh snap

I love many cars but the mustang is up on top. This is a mustang forum and I do love my stang. I have driven in my buddies 911 Turbo Porsche. Its light, its AWD, its low to ground, its fast and can corner on a dime but it ain't no mustang. It's not a iconic American pony, musscle car.

I'll admit it was a while ago & a 350Z, but when I drove one (small autox course, so I wrung it out), I was very underwhelmed.

Ultimately all the cars discussed in this thread are not logical choices. They are all emotional choices and just the numbers on the spec sheet does not tell the whole story, and is not the entire reason behind the decision. For the owner the car was the right choice & since they have to pay for it & drive it, that's all that really matters.

Here's something to ponder while debating whether the 370 is worth the sticker: is a Ferrari really worth the $100k+ sticker? Do the materials in a Veyron really justify the nearly $2M pricetag?

IMO a 370z is a cheap Porsche, I haven't got any seat time in a newer one and probably wouldn't ever buy one but I like them

I expressed myself, and tried to reintroduce what the OP said, so now I am just reading along.

But the Veyron? YES it is. Lol The Auto Union loses money on every Veyron sold, it is the McLaren F1 of the 21st century in automotive brilliance. I see your point, but the actual cost of a Veyron to it's being, it's a bargain- if you have 3million and 85k a year to spend on maintenance.

That's crazy, but like I said if you can afford that car gas is so issue. What octane do you have to run in those? I would think like racing fuel 110 octane?

A couple of internet searches lead me to believe it is 100 octane for max performance, but 93 will work. Nothing lower is suggested.

The Veyron Super Sport gets 3mpg, and at top speed it will run out in 12 minutes. I saw all this on Top Gear a while back when they were doing all their testing with it.

It definitely gets more than 3 mpg. True it has 200 more up than the base, but it's aero is also quite.a bit better.

That is where I based a lot of stuff, but since we were talking about the Veyron base, not the SS, I watched the other video when James May just tests out the Veyron and hits 407kmp.

Their tanks are 26.4 gallons, so 12 minutes at 250 mph would be 50 miles. 50 miles by the 26.4 tanks would be more like 2 mpg. SS would be a bit better, closer but not quite 3.
