Trading in the DD next week.

Trading in the 2001 F-150 lariat crew next week for a mid sized SUV. Going to be used as a DD for the wife. We would like to stay in the Ford family since that's what we are so any real world experience or suggestions would be helpful. My company DD is a 2008 Escape that has been great to me so we are looking for something like that with basic options meaning no leather ect and absolutely no sunroofs.

Thanks in advance for the input.

I've driven the '13 escape 2.5 non turbo. I think it was the base model. It handled well but the interior was really busy looking. Lol

Does the wife like your escape?

Yes,she does. She's not a car person so she's not super picky.

I've gotta say my moms explorer has been an absolute champ! Its gone up and down mountains loaded down in 4x4 low and high and also lots of city miles with ease. Its an 04 with 120k miles I believe. Just today it towed my dead 9000 lb excursion out of my driveway which is a slight incline! If budget permits I would highly recommend it!

Also consider the Flex and Edge. Also if she doesn't mind having an older model look at the Lincoln MKX. The Edge and MKX sit on the CD3 (Fusion) platform so it's going to have the car like handling while providing the versatility of an SUV. I also love the new Explorer my worry is it seems under powered looking at he specs.

I LOVE FORD & LINCOLN products, but I have to admit Dodge really impressed me with the New V6 Durango. Not sure if I'd pull the plug and buy one just yet though.

4 door wrangler. Next vehicle in my driveway.

Not a ford, not economical but will last forever. Wish ford could still do that with a 4x4 midsize suv.

The flex isn't for everyone.. The Edge is a great family car it even received the Top Dog Award, so you don't have to worry about compromising the safety, and comfort of your puppy. I know she's like a child to you. It looks like here they have a good promotion on the SE around 6K off at least in the Atlanta area. Looking on autotrader in my market it seems like the difference between a used and new is 3-4K. With the used having options and more miles.

Honestly, I'm just about done buying used cars to me it's nice to have something new that you know how it's been treated and it was broken in properly.

She's not keen on buying a brand new one,Andy. She is great about maintenance and repairs but lacks in the overall physical up keep like washing and interior upkeep.

The flex is a pretty amazing car, an acquaintance of mine needed to get a new car for his wife because she was in a bad accident and totaled hers. So they had a deal that she could get a brand new car and he could sell his and get a different used one... So she got the Flex and he got an Aston Martin lol... And when I was talking with him he never mentioned the Aston until the end of the night but he could not stop talking about how amazing the Flex is and how he loves to drive it.

My dad works at a ford dealership. I've driven every new vehicle. And Andy I can assure you the explorer can hustle. The edges are great vehicles with good looks and plenty of pickup and go. The 08-12 escape is a great car. The 4 cylinder has a decent amount of power and the v6 has quite a lot of power. Another vehicle to look at is the Taurus X. It is similar to the flex but looks a little different. It also has nice features and has a v6. Those are great vehicles and seats 7. If you fold the seats down it'll give you lots of room.. The 07-10 explorers are good vehicles. Pretty good power with the v6 and lots of power with a v8.
