The computer knows what speed you are going, and as soon as the car exceeds the programmed limit, it cuts off the power to the fuel injectors and fuel pump.

That happened to me when I tried to see what my car could "do". At (a rediculously low) 115 mph all of a sudden the engine quit. It scared me because I thought I threw a rod or something, then as I coasted and slowed down... Bam, the engine kicked back on. I realized right away what happened: electronic governer (speed limit).

You can get aftermarket PROMS for your computer that don't have limits (or the limit is set to like 250 mph). Search Yahoo or Google for "aftermarket" "PROM" "automobile"

One of the reasons 'they' do this is so you can't ever outrun the cops. Police cars do not have these electronic limits in their computers.

Some people are right on the limiter for speed in vehicles on how it does it's thing. (it either kills injectors or spark to make it actually feel like a miss than anything)

But real reason is not so the cops can catch you (then they would limit this mustang lower don't you think?) or government mandated

It's just from an engineering standpoint. Parts usually have a max speed they can go... Usually it's the driveshaft that vibrates too much or the engine hits the 5500-6000 RPM red line limit to keep from blowing up the motor so it is limited for that reason on most sports cars and police units as such (police have limiters also but it's for red line control basically ..so your local police man doesn't floor the gas and blow up a motor performing a Duke Boys jump over the local hill)

Most average cars is controlling overreving of the motor and the fact that most tires on most average cars are only rated for 120 MPH or so.. hince the limiter at the way lower speed (I know of Ford super duty trucks that can't go more than 90MPH due to the tires)

this called speed limiter , its controlled by software inside PCM ( power train control module) , When speed up to a certain level the PCM will cut some fuel injectors So not allow you to speed Petjaozhdh . ford not allow to cancel or modify the speed limiter cause It is subject to the laws of government , but you can control it on or off by diablo programmer ( www.diablosport.com) this like scan tool give you ability ti make too many modification tuning one of this modification is speed limiter ON or OFF. good luck

the computer shuts engine down when a preset speed or rpm is reached you can turn off speed limiter with aftermarket computer programmer, its their to protect engine from over revving and damage

Electronic speed control basically refers to speed control of electrical motors. What voltage will give you full speed; that depends on the motor specifications. Decrease and increase in voltage results into retardation or acceleration.
