What's your opinion on police using impounded cars?

Lately it seems like there has been a lot of stories on Gizmodo and the news among other places about police taking impounded cars and using them for their own personal use as under cover cops.

Is it just me or is that just a sign of a bunch of corrupt BS?

People spend tens of thousands on really nice cars like 350Z and Cobra Mustangs only to have them used against them and other people, tricking them into racing or speeding so they can hand out more tickets and impound more cars.

I think that it is corrupt and unfair that police are using citizens' cars for their own enjoyment. What do you think?

I think it is crap that they are doing this! I know that if there was a cop driving around my 350z I would hate it! They are doing this for many reasons and no its not just impounding stolen cars. They are taking cars for racing and many other reason!!

here is a link to one of the stories http://jalopnik.com/5244385/illinois...rger-srt8-home

there is another story with a video of the cops stealing a mustang and a 350z and then using them to "get people to race them" so they can impound their car as well. He, the cop, also said that "they are going to be impounding for more than just street racing, they are going to be impounding [sport cars] that are following to close, running red lights" and some other reasons!

I think it's a load of BS and I hate it!!!!!

Someone just got done watching the new fast&furious.

Cops don't generally take those cars actually almost never. What's the difference if they take 200,000 in drug money or their skyline?

It's all illegal property in the long run and that's how governments work no use fighting it.

That's BS. Just the fact that you have to pay an ungodly amount to get your vehicle out of impound, even for a minor offense, is friggen theft. And now they just steal your car because they know you'll never be able to afford to get it back. What a crock.

Our systems make me want to kick people sometimes.

There are procedures to confiscating property. If that 350Z or Cobra Mustang was purchased with drug money or obtained with money earned illegally, I see no conflict with seizing it and then subsequently being used by the police in sting operations.

The police do not use impounded cars for any purpose. They do on occasion use seized cars for various undercover operations. Seized cars are the property of the police department.
