I know this is pretty random, but the other day I was wondering why some pony cars had top cubic inch big blocks and others didn't. When you think about it, Chrysler put 440's in Cudas and Challengers in 1970-1971. And Pontiac put 455's in Firebirds from 1970-1976.

For Ford the 460 wasn't the high horsepower the 429's were even though they are the same family of engines. The 460 was mainly a full size car motor and the 429 had the 429 thunderjets in T-Birds and 429 CJ - SCJ was in Mustangs, Torinos and Cyclones. SCJ means Super Cobra Jet.

I would think that weight would have been an issue. Yeah that's true about the Mopars. but those B-bodys are some pretty big cars wide frame and what not. Not sure if that is the MAIN reason. Good question though.

Liability and insurance premiums. The 428 Cobra Jet wasn't rated at 335 HP just for racing purposes.
