What would be a good first car?

I will be in need of a car come spring 2010 and am trying to narrow my choices down. I'm looking in a 10-15k range. I want a car that has good handling. I would prefer a coupe/ 2 door, although sedan is also a possibility. Not interested in a truck, crossover, or SUV. Would also like the car to be a 2002-2008. Right now my top two choices are a 2007 Saab 9-3 and a 2005 Ford Mustang. Any other ideas/comments/suggestions would be very helpful. Thanks.

What would be a good first car?

Check out American cars ...
Chevy Cobalt, Ford Focus, Chevy Aveo, Pontiac G5/G6 ...
They're all good sized, reliable cars. And they're prettty inexpensive, too ...
For the Mustang, though, it's gonna cost more for insurance.
But the cars I listed are good for a first car. They're teenager-ish, they've got good gas mileage, & they're supporting America!! haha
Hope this helps!! =)

The obvious choices are likely the best, particularly the Honda Fit, Honda Civic, Mazda 3. They aren't 9-3s, TTs or Mustangs, but you're far more likely to find a good one in your price range. (Even if you do find something like a Mustang or TT, you'll need to check the insurance rates, too).

As for some other posts, you can't tell where a car is made by the nameplate alone. The Chevy Aveo, for example, is a rebadged the Daewoo and was built in Korea, at least initially. (I believe GM was going to shift production to Mexico). Similarly, I think all Civics sold in North America, other than the SI, were built in the US.

This site should have a wealth of information for you. In my opinion, my top 3 would be the Z, the R32, and the Saturn Sky i guess. All of them are great cars that should make you happy. The Saab and Mustang are also good choices but the long term fit and finish of the mustang is a bit of a concern to me. Out of those mentioned, I'd probably go with the Z. If a sedan is more your speed, then the Accord and mazda 6 are great options

I would not recommend the Saab- it's boring and unreliable.

The Mustang is a fun car, but insurance is expensive, and it's a love it or hate it car.

Also check out:
Scion tC
Honda Civic
Nissan Altima/Altima Coupe
Honda Accord/ Accord Coupe
Mazda 3

There are so many choices that it's difficult to make any specific recommendations. Here's some suggestions that might help you narrow down your choices:

Dont get a mustang they are realy cute.

But they are crap they break way to easily..
I had one it was crap..

Get a honda or Nissan they are the most reliable cars out there, and they last forever!

I now have a 2008 civic Coupe i bought it used from an auction for 11k..
