What do you think would win in a race?

1989 mustang gt, with a few things done to it exhaust, cold air, tune. (manual)

Or a stock 2006 yzf600. The 600 only does 11.5 1/4 miles

The person said they will race their mustang against my 600 if they can have 5 cars from behind on the 1/4 mile so what do you think will happen?

Also, how fast an a car reach in speed in 5 car lengths?

a bikes strong point is its acceleration from a standing start & that's where you get your edge, the shorter the race the more chance you have of winning,
if he wants 5 car lengths its not a race he knows you can beat his car so he is trying to handicap you,
if you do race tell him he can have 5 fiat 500 car lengths they are a nice short car about 5ft long,
tell him he can have the car lengths at the end not the beginning that way he has to start from a standing start & 1 to a penny he will bugger the start up & lose even more time but give him as little as possible its a race & the start should be from a stand still & you should both do the same distance anything else is not a race

If you give him 5 car lengths it will be close. Here's why. You are not only giving up the speed he has with 5 car lengths but your reaction time as well. I assume he wants you to wait until he is even with you before you start. If that is the case he will be five car lengths past you with a head of steam before you are even off the line.

I'll take that bet. Give him the 5 car lengths, I'll take you on your bike all day long, even if that Mustang will do a 1/4 in 13 flat (It won't). Even with 5 car lengths, you will still kill him. 5 car lengths at 100 mph = 0.51 second (100 mph = 147 feet per second, your car is 15 feet long, 5 lengths = 75 feet, 75/147 = 0.5102) so he's spotting himself 0.51 second. He'd need a minimum of 3 times that to even be close. You'll be by him before you get out of first gear. Even if you granny shift, you'll still beat him so bad you could stop and eat a sandwich at the finish line before he got there. I'm guessing he won't even crack into the 14's with that car. Brand new stock they were only good for 14.8 with a professional driver. The mods your buddy did on it made it louder, not faster, plus it's now 22 years old.

Re-reading your question, does he want to start 5 lengths behind you and have you launch when he's even with you? If that's the case, you'll still kill him. He might be going 30 or so (?) across the line. A car that heavy won't be going that fast in 75 feet. If anything, it's better for you if he starts from behind like that. Either way, your bike will be going by him as you shift into 2nd.

Your bike should win even with 5 car lengths just shift right get a good launch and it will be an easy win, and like the other guy said he needs almost 500hp to beat you, or make it a close race, and that 5.0 with only a couple bolt ons has no chance.

I would do it if there is nothing on the line except pride, remember you win some you loose some!

No comparison the R6 will take it apart. Simply a way, way better power to weight ratio.

the yzf 600 should win hands down. Its obvious the car owner is scared why would he need a start of 5 car lengths if he thinks he could win but he will if you give him this length of start surely an even start would be fair as these cars are fast but not as fast as the bike.

you'll smoke him, even with 5 cars. that car might run at best a real high 13 in the quarter with a good driver. plus its a 5 speed he might miss gears and might not be able to launch it good. id put money on the bike, a bunch of money.

A decent rider on the R6 will blow the doors off the Mustang. Not even close! Car guys have no clue when it comes to bike performance.

Bike: 650 lbs. (max) with rider, 100+ horsepower. Equals 6.5 lbs. per horsepower
Car weight with fuel and driver (I'm guessing here): 3,000 lbs
Thus, for the same power/weight ratio, the car would need 461 horsepower.
