Help the dark side...

Soo im helping my girls brother with his skylark he has a ticking noise above 50 mph he was thinking that it was the oil pump not feeding the engine with enough oil so he got a higher volume pump problem is its the wrong pump.... The only numbers i could find were 350 and a 9 under it on the block? The pump looks like its up by the oil filter i just want to identify what the block is so we can get the right part

How old is the car and is the ticking coming from the top or bottom of motor and the pump you see near the water pump is the fuel pump

68 Skylark the oil pump should be on the bottom of the engine under the oil pan. I would almost bet it has a valve ticking or the timing is off a bit.

Have him try the V8 Buick forum to figure out what motor etc he has.

Good Luck

Aw I just looked up the 350 Buick engine and found this on how to decode the head casting numbers. I have not played with any Buick's engines just Chevy and GM engines. That is why I was mistaken (for the first time this year) about the oil pump. Here is a link on deciphering the casting numbers.

GESSLER HEAD PORTING, Quadrajet and Buick Parts - hide Head info - Buick Head casting numbers Buick Performance Parts / Q-Jet parts

I am pretty sure it is a Buick 350 because you said "350 and a 9 under it on the block?"
