Can I Change Oil Weight?

My 5.0 2000 Exploder has be strugling with start up oil pressure for some time now. Because my engine runs 5w20 and at running temprature the 20 weight rating seems to have the thicker viscosity the engine needs to keep oil pressure. So im thinking a heavier 10 weight rating for cold starting may help or fix my start up oil pressure problem...

I know its not recommended to switch away from the manufactuers set weight for oil but im wondering if anyone has experience with this or knows if switching to a 10w20 oil will help and still give me proper bearing lubrication?

My step dad ran 10w30 in our ranger for years when it was 5w30 and never had any problems.. I run 10w30 in my 5.0 because its about shot.. Dos t hold oil pressure

Not knowing my truck required 5w20, I put 10w30 in it years ago. Truck now has 340,000k miles on it and have never done anything but maintenance on the engine. I agree with you on moving threads to a point. Once moved, you never hear anything again. Each section should have a sub-topic section. That way ppl responding are ppl you know and trust.

And that right here is why I left this forum...

Throw 10w30 in there and be done... She'll be fine
