New camaro

Looks like ford is really going to have to kick it in gear with the mustang. Chevy will be offering their base camaro with a 3.5L 300hp V6 and top of the line gets a 422hp v8 standard 6spd or 6spd auto. Ford is about to get stomped depending on the pricing of the camaro. Regardless if they want to compete they need the v6 bumped by 2009 with the release of the camaro. Hopefully the eco-boost will be in it by then.

Re: New camaro

We'll have to see how they do. I, personally, think they look pretty good. I'm not rushing out and buying one, though. I would like too, I just don't have the money laying around to buy a new car every time one comes out that I like. I am looking forward to seeing one in person, though.

Re: New camaro

4000lb 422hp car though... thats its downfall. The mustang just needs to keep its weight down and bump its power some and its good to go~ will they do it? I doubt it.

Re: New camaro

ford doesnt NEED to compete performance wise with camaro to outsell them, they never have had to.

It's a different market now then it was 10 years ago. Mustang is going to have a much harder time around this time I think.

I disagree. The Mustang is still the Mustang and the Camaro... Well, it's still a favorite of the mulletted folk. But that's about it. The Mustang will always have more mass appeal.

Re: New camaro

honestly, the one who offers most MPG while retaining the most power will be the winner.

Cool Camaro back . . . .

The Challanger vs. Camaro vs Mustang rivalry is good for business & badly needed to generate domestic buzz, media & showroom traffic.

Still, it's a new world - & mpg is the issue to most buyers - this is the battlefield of the 21st Century (rather than all-out performance).

The Mustang is a happy car. The Camaro take's itself too seriously.

Ford "gets" the pony car thing in a way GM & Chrysler never did.

The Mustang will continue to dominate sales.

9m+ sold to date . . . .

Re: New camaro

Since the economy/fuel issues today are much like the 70's, why not make a 2010 Mustang II? They sold like hotcakes the first time 'round....

Well if they end up offering another 4cyl mustang like they are talking about then technically we will have a M2.

The reason the Mustang beat the Camaro and Firebird was the girls buying the V6's.

So yes I agree that it had more mass appeal. I also think Ford did a bit better in sticking with their Mustang more than GM did with theirs. The Mustang had some pretty bad times in the 70's, but Ford never canceled it so I give them credit there as well.

I think this is a good opportunity for Ford to finally take the speed and power trophy away from Chevy though, which makes me a bit nervous. I highly doubt the V6 mustang will compete in performance with the V6 Camaro because that's a very impressive V6.
They do however, have a big opportunity to get through and beat the Camaro SS and Challenger R/T. The SS is powerful like always, but like they said above at 4000lbs it only manages a low-mid 13 stock. If the Mustang can get a few more ponies out of their engine, and not go lead heavy like the Camaro and Challenger they've got a shot.

Re: New camaro

Gotta remember too, if it wasnt for guys like John Coletti, in 94 the mustang was going to be built on the Probe chassis, and would have became FWD.

The next decade will be the second coming of the end of a Muscle era, it will become the end of the Modern Muscle era. We will once again scurry to anemic wimpy motors and hybrids. Will we see another MustangII? its possible. We have seen history repeat itself with the retro 05's, it only makes sense the repeat it again and follow suit by bringing back the MustangII. Would be great if they made it a limited production Turbo 4cyl with 6spd/IRS and a slight weight reduction (if it isnt thinner already from shedding 2 cylinders), would be awesome mileage and they could pump out about 200-240hp, thats a simple boost controller away from 300hp mark. Still the V6 could be raised to 300hp anyways, and the GT is gonna be what, 400hp rumored? thats still a good lineup. Then ditch Shelby and give us back SVT and a real Cobra, and just like SVT broke the rules bringing us first factory sc'd Mustang in 03, they can give us the first factory turbocharged stang too. 5.4L Twin Turbo holy ****. Epic.
