7.3 powerstroke vs V10

So long story short ive just got to the point where my single cab 87 f150 no longer suits my needs so I am looking to upgrade. My budget is about 10k, ideally I want an 04-08 f150 with the 5.4 but people still want an arm and leg for them so instead im looking at either a 95-97 4 door with the 7.3 powerstroke or a 99-03 with the triton v10. The most id ever be hauling is an atv trailer so I dont NEED the diesel. Opinions? Pros and cons of each?

They will get the same fuel economy and a diesel costs more, is more expensive to maintain and more expensive to repair...o and diesel is more expensive to put in the tank.

Yeah it kind of evens out against the v10s poor mileage with all that factored in. Ive also heard they dont like the cold, in salt lake here its usually between -5 and single digits. My buddy at work always had a hard time getting his cummins started

Ive considered it. My truck has a performance 302 and it struggles to get over parleys summit or any mountain for that matter (when its loaded up), and its got more power than a stock 351. Id get a 460 but those get worse mpg than a triton 10 lol

I drive a 01 250 7.3 daily. I average 12-14 mpg. Drops a hair when hauling (2 tons plus). My everyday load is around a ton in the bed.

Ive driven an 03 7.3 before and it was alot of fun but for a guy who doesnt need to haul a ton of weight, would the diesel even be worth it? I have heard an oil change costs between 80 and 100 bucks!

Get the powerchoke. Jk but really get it. The v10 sounds just gay. If they are the same economy like he said then get the diesel. It will last longer.

I know of two v10s that were replaced under warranty. I had a 350 super crew with the 7.3, loved the truck but totaled it. I currently have a f150 crew w/4.6 and a 250 w/5.4. Both are great motors. My recommendation to the OP since your looking for a f150, get the 4.6, gas mileage is 5mpg better. My 4.6 has 341,000 miles and only work done to the motor is an exhaust manifold. Bottom line, buy anything but the v10.

Get an inline hose heater or a block heater. U will never have a problem starting a diesel again.

4 gallons of rotella 15w40 every 5k in my truck plus the giant motorcraft filter...it's not cheap. On the positive side truck has 200k and I just put a brand new set of 32" extra ply tires on it. Plan on another 200k before replacing.

Carfax is only as good as the information reported to it.

They sound decent with the right muffler. My buddy has a flowmaster super 40 on his and it sounds pretty good, different but good

Maybe then, but the only ones ive heard sound like they got straight throw mufflers that are really loud and sound like crap. so something like flows or something tame might sound good
