torque vs hp

so today a kid at work was talking sh it about my mustang saying it only has like 230 hp and that's if its still as hot as factory... comparing it to his 2.0T Hyundai genesis ... I just laughed because I know his car has what 300+ hp and is a 4cly.. didn't want to talk sh it then get pulled on .. someone spoke up and said hp doesn't win races toque does... whats your thoughts boys... I see a lot of you have some mods but there cai lowered and stuff like that that really doesn't make any major difference.. so do you think your car is fast

The 2013+ genesis is pretty quick. About 275hp and torque while getting 30mpg and rwd. And if its the rspec it's lighter too.

I think my car is fast. But nobody ever really tries to race so idk for sure lol.

I think it's faster than most ricer/imports.

But you'll get taken by lots of "newer" cars that might not even be sports cars lol.

But as far as the v8 food chain is concerned, your at the bottom haha.

But when building it up, you can make it pretty fast with f/i

My buddy has a 2013 3.8 r spec. They're quite clearly faster than the 2.0t's. But that little motor holds up well. There's a first gen 2.0 near me making 414/439 to the wheels.

Theyre pretty sweet. I wouldnt mind having one and thought about it a good bit. The sixxers are quick too but for the extra money you can build up the 2.0 for less and be faster once the aftermarket world picks up with the newer car which a lot more will for the 2.0 than the 3.6

I never see the 3.8's though. People who buy hyundai's as a sports car seem mostly to go for looks and value. Plus blow off valves are d-bags Sunday Facebook status. I don't mind the car because I think it has stepped up miles of where it used to be as the tiburons, but I've never met a tiburon/genesis owner who wasn't a complete tool or another wannabe fast and furious asshat. Pic gotta add another one from work with a ruined genesis. Painted the rims black and they are all chipped and snotty already. Added chicken wire grills and ruined it essentially. Car is barely 2 years old and it already looks like it belongs to a 16 year old. No offence to 16 year olds with taste and a set of ballast there

If you are racing from a dig then you have more torque so you will get an early lead, he may catch up top end depending on how much horsepower he has over you (by the numbers above it isn't really anything).

I don't really think my car is fast. I mean I think it's pretty quick compared to other cars. But once you start comparing to certain sports cars I think it lacks.

You'd have won that most likely especially with some 4.10s. Should have pulled out $100 and told him to match it and go settle it right now. That shuts HP 99.99999% or ricers permanently and if not you get paid.

yah his car is a 2013 with only 5000 miles on it... I guess if mine wasbrand new from factory I would most likely beat him but after 13 years I probably lost some of my crazy horses

Nope. I've had them at 150k plus and running better than ever. My current motor has 85k or so on the clock and runs like a raped ape. Just have to maintain them and do the tune ups when needed.

I agree, I feel like my car is quick but not really compared to the "newer" sport cars.. Then it makes it feel slow. Haha

I am well aware that my car isn't very fast, I would probably classify it on the slow end of quick, but that's not why I bought it. I bought it because I agreed with the price, it had low miles, looked excellent for its age, and most importantly sounds like Jesus. Yes, if Jesus made a sound it would be the exact tone of a 2 valve 4.6.

I think my car is kinda slow, but speed is a relative thing.

My money would be on the Korean car. I've had my *** handed to me by one. I didn't even know what the hell a Genesis was... I had to Google it. All those cars look the same to me nowadays
Seems like, not that long ago, we were laughing at Hyundai...
Times change.

Horsepower vs Torque
I was having a chat with some guy, and the question came up about what is the difference between the two. Well, I gave him my "short" answer and he thought about it for a moment and looked at me and said, "That doesn't sound right".
I gave up trying to explain it for a long time after that.

I've since heard a "short" explanation that is much better than my old not-so-short version
It's to the point and, really, all that 95% of us need to know.

Horsepower is the part that you read about... Torque is the part that you FEEL.

Torque is starting power from zero.
Or-what helps get u off the line
Horsepower is a little harder to explain lol
I just know it's 746 watts.

P.s.
I wish my car had more of both

Horsepower is how hard you hit the wall, torque is how far you drag it.

My definitions are probably skewed but my cobra at 500/500 to the tires is not fast. A coyote gt is not fast. 11 second 1/4 mile is now the entry level to a quick car.

Well what is fast is just relative to what you're talking about. Compared to the cars at my school I have the fastest car. But start comparing it to built and newer sports cars I wouldn't consider it fast

Agreed about hp/tq, also agreed that most cars ppl think are fast will get raped by a legit fast car. However, 500/500 not fast? Properly setup that's a 10 second car all day. Get some stickies, swap in a built SRA or build the IRS and thrash that 6 speed to hell. I know the fastest auto swapped eaton Cobras making a little over 500 to the wheels are in the 9s.

Already have built sra...the car just isn't fast to me anymore. Takes more hp to give the same thrill. Just don't have the bank account to support my addiction.

But yeh, it's quick enough to scare most everyone but my wife. She's used to it as well. Last time I drove her 2v gt I was very let down. I've been spoiled.

Lol you're like an adrenaline junkie. Need more and more to get a rush. Time to pull off that Eaton and slap on a 3.4l Whipple.

Yeh...the whole money part keeps stopping me. Would prefer a 2.9 Whipple, make 650+ on 93 octane. Not wanting a race gas car and the 3.4 just isn't fun at that low boost.

I've had two different kits for the car and have a wot/window switch already installed. 100 wet just sounds fun...

Swap to automatic with a 3500 stall? You'll come off the line like a goddam banshee vs what you do now.

I enjoy shifting my gears even if it's slower.
