Word on STI's?

A buddy of mine is looking into geting an 06 or 07 subaru sti sedan. Anyone have any experience with them? I know very little about them other than the fact that they would kick my 2012 v6's butt on turns and in rain/snow

Those STIs are beasts! If I was your friend, I would look for a stock/unmolested one. If not modded properly, they are susceptible to problems such as ringland failure. If modded properly, you could make 400 awhp pretty easily and be safe. The trans is pretty bullet proof. The adjustable diff is awesome. Along with the suspension, brakes, seats, exhaust note, looks, BBS wheels, acceleration, AWD, and pretty much everything else.
Can't go wrong with one. I have a '11 WRX.

Don't get anything before 11. They are amazing just very finicky with modding. It's all about proper tunning with an sti.

I wouldn't do that. That thing has most Likely been run into the ground. Good year but not a lt of power compared to 09 and above. Plus right at 70k you are supposed to do a really expensive thorough maintenance on it so on top of the car you have that. I would stay away from it. I didn't see was it stock?

My uncle has an 06 ( I think it's an 06) and with a set of extreme dry (street legal) radials he demolishes Mustangs in corners and even quite a few in a straight line. It rides like its on rails and it dead hooks from a dig. And that's with only tires and a tune.

Make sure all the maintenance is up to date with it. I had a buddy with an 07 reach 110k with very few major problems. Biggest issue he had was blowing the stock turbo, make sure the banjo bolt filter in the oil feed line has been replaced regularly if he wants the stock turbo to blast.

If it's possible he needs to do a busy leak test and ca compression test before buying. Any turbo as well as check shaft play.
