Time for a laugh! New Z/28.

Chevy just unveiled the new Z/28's price... $75,000 not including the gas guzzler tax.

Me too, I really like the car, except for the ridiculous price, I wonder how bad the GG tax will be. I think Chevy was smoking all sorts of things when they priced it.

I haven't looked into it much but what is the mpg? It uses the LS7 so I didn't think it would have a GG tax.

And?

It's called exclusivity for high performance cars.

I haven't seen the mpg on it, I only saw that it has a GG tax from a C&D article.

According to the GM media posting, the 75k includes destination, freight, and GG tax already.

It's pretty much all the same features as the Z06, with a gutted interior and different body. Not very exclusive IMO

Time for a laugh! New Z/28.

Just found the estimates off the Chevy media site, 15 city, 24 highway, not sure how that would be low enough for the GG tax.

2014 Camaro Z/28 pricing announced at $75,000 - Camaro5 Chevy Camaro Forum / Camaro ZL1, SS and V6 Forums - Camaro5.com

The 2014 Camaro Z/28 will go on sale this spring with a suggested retail price of $75,000, including a $995 destination charge, but excluding tax, title, license and dealer fees.

Gas Guzzler tax is suggested around $2600.

The new Z/28 is offered in five exterior colors – Red Hot, Black, Silver Ice Metallic,
Ashen Gray Metallic and Summit White. Only a single option is available: A $1,150
package that adds air conditioning and four audio speakers. The standard Z/28
package includes one speaker.

WTF GM.

However, this car looks to be a seriously fast track car.

The Camaro Z/28 logged a lap on Germany’s legendary Nürburgring road course that
was four seconds faster than the Camaro ZL1’s and beat published times for the
Porsche 911 Carrera S and the Lamborghini Murcielago LP640.

The new camaro has the same features as the C6 Z06 and shares a similar price. Why would I talk about the C7 Z06 when it hasn't even been released yet?

So you want to compare an outgoing model year z06 to a new model year z/28. I'm just saying the outgoing cars will be cheaper. So yes, if you aren't comparing the same model year. But why not say I can buy a used gtr or used lambo or whatever.

Because the C6 Z06 and the Z/28 both share the LS7. A comparison between the Z/28 and C7 Z06 would be more fitting if they used the revised LT engines in the Z/28.

For 75K? Rather have the new Corvette. You could build one BMF for that kind of $. Bet this time next year it's cheaper. Chevrolet thinks it's a collectable. Not!

Yep. 75 grand. And it doesn't come with a stereo or air conditioning as standard equipment. It also has less horsepower than the ZL1 which costs 25 grand less and comes with air and a stereo.
But they claim that it's light and will hold it's own against Porsches and Lamborghini on the track.
We'll see...
Even with the high price, the collectors will be crawling all over one another to buy one.
They're even going to auction off the rights to buy the Z28 with serial number 001.

Order one early, before they're all gone...

On the Nubrugring, the Z/28 is faster in the wet than the Porsche 911 Carrera S and the Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 are in the dry.

Nurburgring official lap times:

2014 Z/28 - 7:37.4 in wet conditions - video -
2012 ZL1 Camaro - 7:41.27
991 Porsche 911 Carrera S - 7:37.9
Ferrari 458 Italia - 7:32.92
Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 - 7:40
2011 Nissan GTR - 7:34
Koenigsegg CCX - 7:34
2005 Ford GT - 7:40.6
2006 Yamaha YZF-R1 - 7:32.1
2013 Shelby GT500 - *7:39.28* unofficial, dry conditions. Supposedly this was the third attempt, this car also supposedly (likely) had aftermarket tires and brake pads - video -

GM claims the Z/28 would likely be around 6 seconds faster in dry conditions.

Regardless on how overpriced this car is, it is seriously fast on a race track.

When i see shelbys selling for 75-80k out the door, this really does not surprise me. The car is going to be wickedly fast, and is also a collectors item. Most likely nobody in this thread is going to be buying this car, so what all is there to laugh about?

That exactly the point others are missing.

Where are you that Shelby's are selling for 75-80? All the ones I have seen at local dealers are 67-70k.

Time for a laugh! New Z/28.

Good luck finding that price.

Dealer markups are pushing the remaining gt500s well plus of $70,000.

Damn! Why is that Ferrari so fast? It's doing times almost the same as the motorbike.

Yeah, it's expensive but the rest of the cars on the list are even more expensive which actually makes this car a good deal for those who have close to a hundred grand to spend on a track car.
I doubt many of these cars will sell for the sticker price, add 10 or 20k and then you'll be close.
Nurburgring times are interesting but there are variables. The manufacturers are NOT grabbing any old car off of the showroom floor to take there.
Know what I mean?

Except the GT500 comes with a full interior and the Z28 comes with a stripped interior. Don't get me wrong I would absolutely love a Z28 if it actually had a few more creature comforts.

Well, the gt500 is a luxury muscle car, in my eyes. I wouldn't compare the Z/28 to a gt500, i think of it more in comparison to the cobra Jet. It's a race car. I feel like the gt500 is a Go fast car, with creature comforts. Where as the z28 is a track racer, designed for a specific task. Don't get me wrong, should i hit the powerball, i'll have both in a heartbeat.

You can get the stereo and air conditioning as options. It looks like a lot of the weight reduction on the interior is no power seats and the back seat weighs 9 pounds less. There is very little sound deadening material so the car is going to sound like you're driving down a gravel road all of the time, just like the Cobra R.
They apparently made the biggest gain with the wheels. They saved 50 pounds of unsprung, rotating mass right there...

I'm aware of this, his statement implied that all GT500's were "well above 70k."
