Lincoln building a mustang based car?

Has anyone heard these rumors? I've seen a lot of reports the past few days that Lincoln isn't ruling out the possibility, and has received access to the 2015 mustang.

I have heard about it. At NAIAS there was quite a bit of talk on a 2016/2017 Lincoln Mustang. MKM 3.7? Sounds good to me.

Haven't heard an official word, no one from Ford. I couldn't say for sure, but when Ford reps say "oh, I don't know..." Vs "no, that's not happening." It tells me it's in the works, or at least on a drawing board.

I heard that they are considering a coup and a...sedan version. I have no idea how 4 doors would look on that platform.

I have a soft spot for Lincolns .. I've had a Town Car, a 2001 and 2003 LS V8 and a 98 Mark 8 LSC. The LS V8 and the Mark 8 were exceptional cars, especially the Mark 8. Since killing off the LS, Lincolns have been horrible budget cars with slightly upgraded interiors.

Ford needs to do one of two things, either kill the company, or invest in it and fight Cadillac like they have in the past.

IIRC, wasn't the LS platform supposed to be what the 2005 Mustangs were going to be built on? Then they axed it as it would have added like $200 per car or something stupid like that.

Regardless, I want a Lincoln Mark 9. This car should be a two door with a de-tuned Trinity and Tremec 6 spd. That powertrain along with all the options and awesomeness that made the Mark 8's so nice. Price it just below the CTS-V Coupe and you have a winner, assuming the new Mustang platform isn't garbage.

I would love it. Great cars IMO.

Off topic:
If you love Lincolns and cars in general than check out the movie "Hit and Run". Its a Dax Shepard movie and most of the cars are from his personal collection.

I like Lincolns for the value. Not as much price over other luxury brands, and worth the extra price over the Ford equivalent. Two family members just got MKZs, and they are fantastic. Though I agree with many reviews, Lincoln is more along the lines of "checking luxury boxes" than making a unique luxury vehicle.

Though with a retracting glass roof, the ceiling is low in some spots. MKM with the glass roof? I'll pony up...(pun intended)

Maybe they should just cave and continue building the Crown Vic, you know it will continue to sell like hotcakes. Old people love them.

I'm almost 30, my nearly 60 year old dad (who is a huge car guy) complains about "bad NVH" in my Mustang. He says they should have put more sound insulation. Quite a different attitude than most folks on this forum, where people do muffler deletes and close off the silencer on the intake! I think a Lincoln-ized Mustang will have those sorts of things that an older demographic desire in a car that still has a peppy "get up and go". Maybe even softer suspension for a more comfortable ride. Not that all baby boomers want that, I know there are plenty on this forum who love the sporty ride and sound of the Mustang, but I'm just guessing what the Lincoln crowd might go for.

My V6 rode like a Lincoln until I removed the 17 inch wheels. I was shocked at how smooth it was.

What was it they called that back in the days: "COUGER"? I always thought that was their competition to the Mustang.

Funny (stupid) how Ford used to make cars that competed with each other like that. Cannibalism. GM did the same thing

GM did it more so than Ford. At one time GM had Chevy. Pontiac, Oldsmobile and Buick back in the late 60's and early 70's muscle cars. But it's not compitition when it's all in the family, it is $$$$$$$$.

I think that GM should have kept the Pontiac line going for the sake of the trans am. They could've done Pontiac like they did with the Buick slim line the product line.

Yes they should have. There is a company that converts the Camaro to a T/A... I would buy this over the SS, ZL1 or Z28. To bad Chevy squashed. It is not worth buying a Camaro then paying for the Conversion.

I have a picture at work of a retro 1970 transam white with the blue stripes sweet car. Also a 1969 gto judge man these cars would dominate the market if they where put into production.

I've heard a rumor that GM is bringing back the Firebird as a standalone car next year. Doubt it will happen, but it would be cool, and a lot of people would buy it.

If they do, it's going to be tough for me to decide to save up for the stingray, or the Firebird. If the Firebird was around last year, I'd be in that right now. I knew about the conversion, buy I didn't want to pay for a Camaro, and then the conversion kit as well.

I would buy this, as long as the specs and everything matched the sticker price.

My wife has already said she wants it if they build it. I just leased her a '14 Lincoln MKX for 3 years. Maybe the timing will be right...She really likes my Mustang, but she told me that she is now a Lincoln Girl...Great...

I don't dig the new mustang that much, but I would definitely rock a Lincoln sports car. Last lincoln I had was a town car. Loved it. Would love to be in a white leather trimmed sports coupe with a Lincoln badge again.
