Saleen Cobra GT

No one ever talks about the Saleen Mustang. When talking about Mustangs, cobras and GT's are all that are mainly mentioned. Why?
is there hate for the saleen? are there just not many out there?
I always read about cobra swaps but not saleen. What engine and suspensions set up do they run and is it ideal?

Saw this bad boy yesterday ripping up the street, the first I've seen in person. The reason Saleens from the 99-04 era aren't highly regarded is because 99% of them are just GT's with a cool lookin' body, and maybe some suspension work. Only a very few came supercharged I believe. But really, it's just the Saleen name people pay for. I personally think they look cool as hell, I got so excited when this guy flew by me. Others however, think they've got a ricey body. But it's all in opinion though. I've got know idea why later model saleens aren't talked about more often. I know they come pretty quick from the saleen facility. As for the Saleen Cobra, I'm pretty sure they're stock terminators, with all the regular 99-04 gen bells and whistles. Biggest reason you never hear people talk about them is, well, a lot of people don't know they exist. Most people would look at it thinking you just slapped a saleen body kit on it and call you an idiot. Little do they know...

Yes, the body kit is not the best looking but I figured it had the power and suspension package to back up the aggressive styling.

Nah, not really. The regular saleens from 99-04 were just GT's really. But damn, you can spot one coming from a mile away. If they didn't still want $15k for a low mileage one, i'd totally buy one.

In 99-04 there are Cobra Saleens (rare), 281 Saleens, and 351 Saleens.
The only difference body wise ,I know of, in the 281 and the 351 are the spoilers. Most people with Gts do not put the Saleen side scoop on there replicas. Even though the Saleen side scoops were replicated. Most people do not have the badges. But there were some pretty good replicas on Ebay years back. The Saleen also has a special gage cluster.

The Saleens had supercharged options. I am no expert in the area. I just have a few pointers.

Very few 03-04 Saleen Cobras were built. If you can find one for sale, it's definitely a collector. I saw a well documented one on Ebay a few years ago and the guy wanted $40k for it.

"Saleen Cobras" are indeed real. However, I'm not much of a fan of Saleen. Like the Roush's better, of course Shelby's are my #1.

Saleen Cobra GT

I may have inadvertently found it while looking this up. Check it out! Says only 1 zinc yellow cobra saleen was made in 2003.

Saleen Mustangs really came popular to the average car crowd when they were available on the S197 body style.

As much as I hate to say it, part of it, if not most of it is credited to the first Transformers movie in 07 when the Decepticon Saleen police mustang hit the screen.

I've always thought the 99-04 Saleens were nice..a bit overpriced for what you get performance wise and in my experience most of the owners are dicks. I guess they feel superior to the rest of us because they own a marked up body kitted 2v lol.

Yes, it is a 2v but they have a supercharger. Not all 281s have a supercharger. It did not start until 03. They look like the Roush M-90s salenn 1999 2004 supercharged - Bing Videos

I don't remember if Saleen offered a blower on the S281's from 96 to 98 but they absolutely offered them in 1999... The 99-00 models have the series 1, I think they started offering the series 2 in 2001 and the series 3 and 4 somewhere after that.

Assuming you are talking about a regular S281, pretty much the same other than suspension, wheels/tires, body kit, interior stuff, tune, etc... The S/C cars have the supercharger as well. The 281E cars have a built engine and the twin screw blower.

HAHHAAH not at all apparently. I was under the assumption the engine was just a 2v with a blower thrown on

On the non-extreme cars, yes, it is a 2V with a blower bolted on. On the extreme cars, it's a completely built engine. On the Saleen Cobra's, it is the stock cobra motor for whatever year.

OK so Saleen categorizes them as "extreme" and "non-extreme". Got it.

I think in 03 there were 10 saleen cobra hard tops and 9 convertibles produced. The seats have the cobra in the back and saleen in the head rest.

I think a saleen looks bad ***. Everyone knows what a mustang looks like, everyone knows what a cobra is, but unless you know what Saleen is most people think its just some ricer body kit on a mustang
