Stupid Question

It might be awfully simple to you guys, I have an 14 mustang v6 auto and I've tried using selectshift and I am fine accelerating but when I slow down do I downshift or just let the car slow down in whatever gear I'm in? Freaks me out trying to downshift cos the car lurches and slows down considerably while the engine whines and I don't want to damage it any more by improper technique.

I would let the car downshift by itself. Whenever I play around with my select shift, I sometimes downshift but most of the time I let the car take care of the downshifting while I take care of the upshifting.

Whenever I do downshift, though... I don't experience a 'lurch'. It downshifts, and depending on the speed I'm at, you'll hear the engine working and the car slowing down but it never 'lurches'.

The only reason I can think of for the lurch is that it was downshifted at too high of a speed, that's assuming that there isn't another underlying reason.

I bet its this; downshifting at too high of a speed. OP, at what speeds do you downshift? Try downshifting at a lower/slower speed problem should be solved or you can let the car downshift itself.
