2000 F-150 Harley Davidson thoughts?

Might end up trading my GT for an Harley Davidson. Has the 5.4 motor in it. Stock and one owner. Did these motors have the spark plug issues as well? Anything I should be looking out for? Going to go look at the truck soon so I will try to get some pictures and any info I can.

The 5.4 was garbage and not worth it imo. My dad had one and had problem after problem with exhaust manifold leaks. 4x4 went out twice. Electrical problems. 3 wheel bearings. Cam phasers. And it didn't even have 100k on it. Had to change the rack and pinion, 3 power steering pumps haha. It was junk and he took care of it he didn't rag on it at all. I'd stay away. Go for a 5.0 f150

^^^Which 5.4 did he have? If it was the 04-06 Triton 3V I believe every word. Those engines had way too many problems. The previous gen 2V wasn't near as problematic. It still have some issues but you could see 120-150k miles easily before anything major.

To the OP, I have not heard of anyone having issues removing plugs on the 2v 5.4's. The two piece plugs that were snapping off upon removal were in the 04-05 Tritons.

I believe some of those 10th Gen Harley's came supercharged as well. If you could find one of them in your price range I'd recommend it over the N/A version as they weren't much different power wise from a regular 5.4 F150 of that gen.

I'm not looking for any performance. Just the few people that contact me so far looking to trade. Just need a truck for hauling a few loads here and there. If anything I'd add exhaust to it and radio but that's about it.

2006 was the model he had. Fx4 reg cab. It had zero power. My 07 5.3 Silverado w 35s outran it no lie. It was pathetic lol.

I don't like the body style in crew cab or flare side bed but those generation of the 5.4 is solid also as noted forced induction was a option and with full time four wheel drive.

Now I will not call the 5.4 3V a slouch I out pulled 6.0 and 5.3 GM engines loaded up mountains it does have quite a few issues but it pulls like a beast I have pulled lawn and farm equipment, shop cars, scrap, ect.

My F250 is currently down due to this engine and if it will move a nearly nine thousand pound truck plus eight thousand pounds in trailer and weight it's pretty good.

I had an 07 XLT with the 3V and it pulled well and did everything you'd want a truck to do, but I knew several guys who had 04-05 Tritons and had major issues - 2pc plugs snapping off, cam phasers going bad, one guy's engine hydrolocked at 32k.

The only issue I had with mine was the electronic fuel module mounted directly above the spare tire rusting out (should've been a recall) and the IWE's failing to fully engage due to an air bubble in the line before the check valve.

Our 01 5.4 has been problem free since day one... I love the Harley F 150 s, they look sweet and seem to hold value pretty well.

Alright so I got my Mustang sold for the price I wanted and did not go with the Harley. Decided if I get a truck I might as well get it 4x4. Right now I'm looking at two trucks. One is 2003 f150 with 5.4 extended cab and the other is 2008 f150 lariat 4x4. 2008 didn't have any spark plugs issues? Haven't decided on what truck yet.

Well, totally went a different route. Picked me up 2011 F150 extended cab with the 5.0. Will be my first car note but gotta start somewhere lol. Need to earn credit.

Very nice! You definitely made the right choice over the other two. The level of refinement is night and day when compared to the 03. A buddy of mine has a near identical fx4 but is the super crew. Also good call on the 5.0. The ecoboosts are great but the early ones did have some problems

Thanks! It was first love when I saw this truck! Definitely was tired of aged interior as well.

The FX4 interior is my favorite by far..looks so clean compared to the XLT/Lariat trims.
A lot of people complain about too many plastics etc. but it's a damn truck. If I wanted soft touch this and leather that I'd buy a Cadillac lol.

Yes I agree the STX and FX4 have more truck like interiors the XLT/lariats are a little too much for me too.

You made a real good choice there IMO.

That being said, the 99-03 (and 04 in the Expy) 5.4L 2V is pretty bulletproof. So is the 3V, its just a whore to work on.

-5.4L trucks from 99-03 and 04 for the Expy are 2V 5.4Ls
-All the 2Vs had the 4 thread spark plug holes except 04s which is when the 2V went to 8 threads
-The 3V is a great motor but is not quite as reliable as the 2V due to it being more complicated. Cam phasers go out and the spark plug issues with them are well documented.
-Spark plug issues in the 3V involve a 2 piece spark plug design that will snap when you go to remove it. There is a special tool made to remove the broken piece and it is not an issue that will require the head to be removed or drilled/tapped. It is a pain in the crank tho.

The Coyote you got in the 2011 is a great motor and almost identical to the Mustang version. It is 10.5:1 compression instead of 11:1 and the intake cams are "truck cams" and focus more on low end than the Mustang intake cams. Exhaust cams are identical. Intakes are functionally identical although they do look different.

I'm on my third 04 to 08 F-150. I've always liked the style of these years. Parts are plentiful, and they last a good long time. My last F-150 gave me over 200K of trouble free miles, and my son now drives it.

My first was a 4.2 V6, and that went well over 212K. My current is a 2007, with the 4.6 V8, and it is just breaking in with 106K.

The 5.4s when taken care of properly go pretty much forever. I don't want to jynx anything tho lol. Love the 2V because its simple, its easy to work on, parts are overflowing in JYs/online stores and apparently people are getting 18-22mpg highway with trucks with better exhaust and a fuel mileage tune.

Ya, hope you have the cooled seats too. Not only are they good for keeping swamp *** at bay (somewhat) in the summer, you can also surreptitiously turn one on when you have a passenger and freak them out when their *** starts to get cold and they don't know why.

Ha! I have done that to people. The best part is my truck doesn't have a hard button for them, it's only on the MyFordTouch so I can hide it with the Nav screen while they get a numb ***.
