Buying a special order vehicle.

I've always wondered how special ordering your vehicle off of fords website works.

When I first bought my pony I noticed that it felt like doing so wasnt even an option.

Do dealers not like doing this?

Do you have to have a significant amount down to be eligible?

Wouldn't it be a whole lot easier for both parties since you don't have to land the customer on a car in stock?

Has anyone done it and what was your experience like?

Thanks.

I factory ordered my 2013, but did it through the dealer, not the website. The salesman printed out the order sheet with the options I had selected, then had me sign off on it. Was pretty painless.

Both of mine were ordered @ a dealership.
I knew before I went how much deposit I would need. ( just ask them )
Ordering allows you to get just what you want, & not pay for stuff you don't.
I would never buy a car off a lot.

I printed mine off the Ford website, and then went to several dealers to negotiate the price as I wanted the car, and finally put the order in at the dealer who gave me the best deal, I only checked off 3 options,as I'm not a bells and whistles type.

You don't order it on the web! That's just Fords guide so you can configure what you want and order it at a dealer.
Most want $500 to $1000 down, some say non refundable to avoid the order and cancel game.
USE X PLAN.
THERES NO NEGOTIOATION AND A GREAT PRICE.
If you don't know about Xplan and how to do it, you're behind the game......wayyyyyy behind.

I spec ordered mine from Dealer...easy-peasy except for the 13/14 week wait. It was worth it. If I remember I gave $1000 down and if I didn't hammer them so much on price I would have tried for smaller. I knw exactly what I wanted (no trade in) so I set up an alias account and emailed every dealer in the state for price. Props to Hammonasset Ford in Madison CT

Become a member of MCA for 50 bucks. Use that membership to get a Ford Partner x plan discount number. Buy just about any new Ford model for x plan price. This is about the best price you'll get. Ok, maybe if you're a negotiation ninja you could get it a 100 bucks cheaper.
Call or email dealerships and tell them you have an x plan PIN number and want to order your new mustang.
There's nothing simpler. The hard part is waiting about 2 months for it to arrive.
