Anyone else ever have this happen?

So this Friday my hood latch malfunctioned causing my hood fly up smashing into my windshield, breaking the hinges. It then proceeded to flying off the car somehow not scratching the roof, and land in the road where it was ran over by a truck.

I was in an accident about 6 months ago where my hood had to be replaced and since then I have been back to the same shop twice because of the hood latch not working. About two weeks ago I noticed that the safety latch wasn't working and the shop owner told me to bring it in, however school has been taking up so much of my time that I wasn't able to make it over there. I contacted the shop after this happened and they implied that they would pay for the damage, but I won't be 100% sure till I take it to them on Monday. Has this happened to anyone else or am I just unlucky? I realize part of the responsibility falls on me since I knew that the safety latch wasn't working.

Also totally off topic from the rest of the thread, but I hope to get hood pins since they would've prevented this all together/kept the shaking at high speeds down. My original hood had them and I definitely regret not putting them on my new hood.

Also no other cars were involved and nobody was hurt.

Here are some photos of the damage. The hood looks far better I in the picture.

Did they not install your safety latch back if so why didn't it catch the hood. Sound like a shady shop to me

They did, but the latch got misaligned and it wouldn't catch the hood.
