Car... Y U NO Loud!?!

So I just bought my new 03 GT and it came with SLP LM1's and an off road xpipe.. However, my dads 06 GT only has SLP LM1 axlebacks and it is a LOT louder than mine. What gives? Is it cause I havent had mine tuned yet? Or is it because of the one extra valve per cylinder on my dads car? I should also mention he has a CAI and I do not but I dont think that makes a huge difference.

Also are the 3v's 2 intake and 1 exhaust? That would make sense performance wise but I dont see how all the exhaust could go through one valve. Seems like a flawed system to me

I gotcha. So would the valves have to do with it being louder?

Spark and cam timing can both affect it. My car loud as all hell when there was no timing advance at any point. Then I timed it and it quieted right up and gained precisely 80 horsepower (according to my butt-dyno)

My theory is that it was igniting so late that the fuel was still exploding as it exited the cylinder (no Bueno for exhaust valves, btw.) It can happen when you get a rich mixture in there like I had. Especialy at higher RPMS when there is so much fuel in there that it doesn't even have time to burn it all before the stroke is over, let alone evacuate it properly.

Here is my theory on your particular case:
the 3v engine makes more power, correcto?
More power just means its getting more fuel and air..
FUel and air goes boom to make power.
So, more power = more fuel/air = more explosion = more noise

Interesting most of the 2vs I hear sound a lot louder than mine, maybe that is because I haven't heard my car from the outside though.

Valve size has a lot to do with it as well.

SLP and Offroad X pipes are obnoxiously loud and annoying. I don't understand how anyone likes them. They sound awful to me.

My car came with them but they're probably my favorite exhaust.. Everyone does Flowmaster and it sounds like a tincan to me but I do like Borla but they're obnoxious too. To each his own like Recon said

Im fine with loud exhausts. The 4.6 just doesn't have the depth.

I feel it. Trust me I'm 17, in a few more years i'll probably be the same way. Either way once you add cams your exhaust doesnt really matter

I got my car and the current exhaust set up when I was 18. Not too many years ahead of you lol. I would love to change my flow 44s to 10s but track days have decibel limits. A car with an offroad x and SLP probably would get kicked out.

Probably lol. I'm okay with being obnoxious for a little bit. I'm tired of my car looking stock at the moment

Might want to consider the neighbors that live around you...

I have, shall we call him, a young Mustang owner that removed his cats and mufflers from his early 2000's era Mustang. Very nice Mustang, and I always wave at him and give him a thumbs up on his ride.

However, he just thought it was so cute to rev down the street on a Saturday or Sunday morning while folks were out cutting grass or washing cars.

This lasted about two weeks. Someone in the neighborhood apparently alerted the police. A policeman parked his car behind a van in the street to hide himself one Saturday morning. Low and behold, about 15 minutes later and right on schedule, this young comes down the street in first gear, smiling in his loud Mustang. As he drove by the officers car, the officer pulled him over. I swear, about 6 neighbors applauded and began to laugh and wave in that direction.

He still comes up the road every Saturday morning, but the Mustang is quieter now. And I still wave at him and give him a thumbs up on his nice Mustang.

Trust me, my car is very tame at low rpms and im very respectful about it in the neighborhood. Although when I get cams there's not much I can do about it haha
