Should I buy this?

Alright, so this car is an '06 4.0 v6 with pony package. It has 93,xxx miles, but it has a rebuilt title and he doesn't know how the car got it, because it was the previous owner who had the accident. He said it runs fine, no check engine light. Also. The paint looks faded, but maybe just the lighting. He's a nice guy, and is asking $5500. Is that too much for taking a risk on the rebuilt title?Click image for larger version

ask for the license plate number, then ask Dieseven's thread about carfax, and he might be able to hook you up with a carfax on it. that usually points to where the title got changed. If it shows that it had been repaired by a ford dealer or something like that, then its possible that the car is fine and repaired well.

Either way, yea i wouldnt really go for a rebuilt title unless its a project car, or if you can inspect it really well and identify anything wrong with it.
according to carfax:

"What is a Rebuilt Salvage Title? Vehicles with salvages titles can be legally and safely returned to the road if they are repaired and rebuilt to a required standard. In this situation, many states require that the vehicle passes a roadworthiness inspection, at which point it may be issued a rebuilt title."

as for the price, i paid 5000 for a 2002 gt in great condition with 139k miles. so 93k miles on an 06 is pretty good, 5,500 is pretty cheap. just be careful. Just buying it will be a gamble, but if you know someone who is good with mustangs, maybe they can give it a good inspection, locate whats been replaced, determine the integrity of the frame, and give you a green light on it. Just make sure you want a 4.0 v6, because its only gonna drop in value with that rebuilt title.

oh and TEST DRIVE IT. make sure it drives like normal and not all rickety like it has a misaligned frame.

theres a thread in the v6 forums somewhere. idk it might be all done, but he had unlimited carfax lookups as long as you have the plate number and state. otherwise, if you buy a carfax lookup, then it will show you the vehicles history. sometime maintainence shows up. changes in title show up as well.

Don't you need the vin number on the car to use carfax? Not the license plate number and state?

Dieseven's been online here for the past couple weeks talking about the Car Fax report prints, where have you been?
