Didn't sell many of them. Plus the new Camaro was coming out; not a good financial decision to compete with yourself. Plus they were intended to be a limited production run from the start. I think just over 40K were built from all 3 years.

We're flooded with classic Camaro's here. Along with Chevelle's they make up about 60-80% of car shows.

I can't say anything I nearly bought a 69 Z/28 RS factory cross ram intake car. 😅
Incase you're wondering it's the very first car posted on this thread.

The second car I restored was Protec-O-Plate 68 Z 28 with Plenum (transAM air cleaner and a set of headers that originally came in the trunk from Chevy and were installed at Fields Chevrolet in Portland, OR. The car was sold in the late 90's and is still in Sweden where it was shipped. I painted the car and did all of the suspension and interior work myself. Back in the day I was a pretty good painter.
The motor was an original 302 and was rebuilt by Bore-A-Car in Portland.
Complete #'s matching car....with Protec-O-Plate...one of less than 8000 made.
Yes, I did take a few liberty's with the car....the cowl hood only came out in 69...the stock hood was sold with the car....instead of the original 6" wheels I had Corvette 7" on it and it was lowered just a little.

Definitely nice. Very good modifications done to it. Sure as hell beats the second car I restored. But that's not saying much given what it is an MGB.

I never was a fan of the modern GTO I always thought the G8 should have been the GTO to compete with the charger. I know it has four doors but four door cars aren't viewed the same way now as they were back in the 60's and 70's. Nowadays you have sporty 4 door cars back then the whole criteria for a sports model was the number of doors. I think if they would have taken the G8 threw some GTO emblems on it and a few retro futuristic touches they would of sold a ton of them and it would have appealed to the guy who wants a muscle car but has a couple kids just like the charger.

For some people and not others. Makes the world interesting. It would be boring if everyone liked the same thing.
But you never know that might have worked for GM. Possibly saving Pontiac? Who knows.

Finally put the blasted and reskinned door shell back on the '69 Camaro project. Mirror is back on since pic was taken. Waiting on some new outer belt moulding with felt...parts have been on national backorder for months.

the G8s were like $30k, so why not get a Camaro for that price?

I wouldn't mind a G8 GXP manual. That would be a fun muscle sedan to putt around in. Few mods and get that thing moving!

We are as well here too. I used to love Chevelles and still do, just not as much of s thrill to see them since I see a couple everyday in the summer. I still appreciate and love them but I guess Im de-censored to them now, like swearing or nudity in movies, lol. We have equally as many Camaros, Firebirds, Trans Ams, here as well, probably more abundant than the Chevelles for sure. I love all of them though. What was funny a couple years ago at a local weekly car cruise night, it was the same cars for the most part that are there every week, and in pulls a cherry, original conditon, 10k mile, Chevy Chevette from the early 80s. People flocked over to it like it was a Bugatti Veyron pulling in or something as equally as rare to see. It was kind of cool though, Im sure it wasnt worth much but it was something different and all the car people there appreciated it.

Thought Chevelle ended in 77. But I get what you mean. I didn't come to this show to see Camaro's and Chevelle's and a tiny hint of other cars. Everyone and their frigging brother has one.

He said Chevette not Chevelle. There probably isn't too many Chevettes in KY.

I shouldn't skim over posts. Didn't catch that until now. Interesting how someone would preserve that over other Chevys from the 80s.

Well, just have a good look at it! Vinyl wood side accents... Rooftop luggage rack... Polished stainless steel hubcaps... What's not to like?

Lol.
The car that Steve was referring to, likely was tucked away in some elderly persons garage, and driven a few hundred miles per year, for most of its life.

It was properly not preserved intentionally lol. It's probably one of "little old lady cars" someone stumbled upon.
