New dd truck?

I'm looking at getting a new dd, small trucks as I'm in college now and spots are pretty small here so I'm looking at either a used ranger or Tacoma. I'm trying to spend around 6-10k anyone have any experience with these trucks? Or any other suggestions?

Can't go wrong with a Tacoma. I've had several and they are champs.

I've got an 06 Taco...best truck I've ever owned (about 6?) they hold their value so they are stupid expensive tho.

My Ranger was decent but the back end would float over any type of bump.

I had a 2000 with 240k on it and I sold it for 6k. Then I had a 2007 with 150k and traded it in for 9k. They are in such high demand that they do command a high resale price.

Yeah I'd trust that ad. Says it's a 2001 then says it's an 05. It's def not an 05+ body. No way that's 1500 bucks.

My dad has a 99 Ram 1500 we are tired of fixing lol. Could probably have it for cheaper than your budget. Doesn't pass smog currently (probably a bad cat). Drives fine though.

Just need a commuter. Decent gas mileage, reliable. Something in the 2000-4000 range. I don't want to hijack this thread tho. PM me

A ram is to big for me atm. And yeah that Toyota has been flagged and not a fan of yellow lol. I have my eye on a couple 02 Tacoma's that seem pretty decent from the pictures. Anything to look out for? I'm wanting a manual, my first manual, and Toyota any common things to look for? Or anything that is expensive to fix that goes at certain mileage?

Well, I have not owned either of the trucks that you are interested in, but I have spent some time behind the wheel of a Ranger, and have had numerous friends and co-workers who have owned both Rangers and Toyotas over the years. You really can't go wrong with either, but as with any used vehicle, you need to do a thorough pre-sale inspection to get some kind of idea as to the condition, and the components which may be due for replacement.
Even the legendary Toyotas eventually wear out, so, in my opinion, you want to look for the ones that have the lowest miles, that are in your price range.

Well yeah I mean I can spot obviously wear and tear and expect that. I'm more concerned about a timing belt, or if the trans wear out at a certain miles kinda known problems. I'm still doing my research on them but haven't come across any really. Just wanted to get any opinions. I just want a car that doesn't need work constantly like my jeep and mustang.

For that price ranger will be a better bet for low mileage truck I had an 08 Ranger I bought with 33k on it for $9k, absolutely loved the truck no kind of weird issues with mine or anything

Had a 99 ranger that I bought new (first and only brand new car I have owned). Little 4 banger, I had it for 75k miles no issues ever other than brakes a couple times and maintenance. Still to this day I wish I would have just kept it. Great little truck, good on gas and was actually quite useful to have around.

I had a 2000 Ranger 3.0 V6 4x4. Put 224K on it, and never had issues with the drive train. Gave the truck to my son who drove it another 6K before trading it in on a full size truck.

Great truck, great drive train. I'd own another. Parts are easily had for these Rangers, both new and used. Cheap to maintain.
