5.4 Triton 2v Spark Plug Issues

I bought a 2002 F150 back in September. The truck is in beautiful shape for a vehicle that age. It currently has 117,000 miles on it and runs great. I do see people talking on the Internet about the issue of blowing out spark plugs on these 5.4 2v Triton motors, but I see so many people driving F150s. How common of a problem is this, really? Anyone have any experience owning or working on these motors to see just how often this really happens?

The 5.4 2V's had the spark plug blow out issue, the 3V's had the 2 piece breakage issue. This link has some good info about the 2V issue.

Having owned an 07 3V and knowing guys that had the breakage problem, I can say that it was an absolute nightmare compared to the blowout problem.

Thanks. That was one of the sites I happened upon and got me wondering how common this really is. Thought I would see about the experience of the people out here. Hoping it's not just a matter of time before it happens to me because eventually everyone will have the issue.

Ask anyone from Ford, and it happens rarely, the issue is blown out of proportion.
Ask anyone in the real world, actually driving the trucks, it happens to almost everyone.

Seems like it's a fairly common issue on the 00-02 2v's, both the 4.6 and 5.4. Some had a plug blow at 70k miles, others well past 130k. So I guess keep your fingers crossed that it won't happen soon or maybe it already has and the previous owner(s) has already dealt with it.

It happens. And all I can say is good luck on the 2v. Chances are the tool will not work. 2nd choice is use a male bolt extractor and hopefully bite the inside of the broken plug. N
3rd pull the head.

Did one today odds were not in my favor. Will be pulling the head on it Monday.
