10-speed Trans

So, the rumor is the 2018 Stang will get a makeover, & the GM-Ford10-speed transmission, the same as the Camaro & F150 will be getting.

10-speed Trans

GM claims it shifts quicker than Porsche double clutch auto. We'll see.

Multiple gear transmissions will be the norm in the CAFE standards era.

10 speed auto in an upgraded Coyote or a TT Eco 6 will be a complete monster at the drag strip. Launch right at the best possible point in your powerband and never leave it.

Oh boy, we're going to get yet another thread on how standard transmissions are better then automatics. When this 10 speed comes out and spanks the standard transmission folks, they'll finally come around.

10 gears in a size limited box makes Mud dubious.

gut feeling.

I do admit newer ATs are sweet and are the way of the future just 10 gears in a small box does not give you much room for beefiness.

I do like Ford and GM working together on this as opposed to individually. Definitely creates the potential for both muscle cars to be amazing, in the transmission department at least. Definitely the way of the future, but I hope they at least have a manual option for those who enjoy driving manuals.

For me personally, the manual is simply more fun to drive.
It doesn't matter which is "better". Better what? mpg? Faster? Quicker?
I find manuals fun! For me, fun is better.
My current mustang is an auto, because I was running out of time to get a replacement for my old 'stang which was stolen and totaled out. My insurance company wasn't going to rent me a car forever, so I had to settle for a nice car at a good price.

I will say, my '09 bought in '10, is the best auto I've ever owned. Still, I wish it was a manual.

For me , automatics are more fun to drive. That's just me. To each their own. I have better things to do with my right hand than shift the gears. 😎

I've said it before and I'll say it again and get called a manual hater or auto nutswinger or something...

If your auto isn't fun its slow. People who think autos aren't fun have never driven a fast one.

I'm not saying that someone still can't think a manual is more fun but its pretty easy to tell a likely internet racer when you have someone saying how much autos suck.

A properly tuned automatic is amazing fun. I know my tuned automatic is!

You are representative of the majority of drivers. Only about 10% of the vehicles sold in the United States are equipped with manual transmissions.

In NJ traffic for commuting, yeah even a lot of Mustang guys prefer autos for just daily driving. Bring the fast cars out after work or on the weekends and blast around the back roads.

But yeah the 10% manual thing is why its getting rarer and rarer to have them offered in stuff. TBTH I can see them being a special order additional cost type deal for only a select certain few sports cars in 15-20 years with the ever increasing fuel standards. Mustang, Camaro, Vette, WRX/STI... I really can't think of anything else. And at that point we are going to have a lot more long range electrics to choose from and autopilot will probably be worked out fully so who knows then.

See Bucko's post. The "OLD" thread of Auto vs. Manual transmissions.

(How Autos are BETTER than Manual Transmissions).

So is this actually a 10-speed (auto?) transmission or a 5-speed with overdrive?

Ford is already designing an 11-speed
