What to look for?

I am going to look at a white 04 cobra at a dealership that has 45k miles and was wondering what I should look for. Is there any issues with the 04's that I should look out for? Any oil leaks, blower pulleys wear, known noises for when I take it for a test drive? The Carfax is clean, no accidents and it passed the emissions tests here in NY. I know about the valve guide wear issue and know to listen for that ticking sound on the drivers side. Is there anything else?

Re: What to look for?

Issues/concerns that seem to be 03/04 cobra based:
1. Driveshaft shake at 80+ mph, issue is simple just need the DS balanced
2. Oil blow by on boosted cars, check for oil in the intake tract (its going to have it, just how much is the question)
3. Head tick, drivers side back of the head can get a tick from overheating (high speed runs, prolonged boosting) its VERY noticeable.
4. Oil cooler leaks where the oil filter bolts to the oil filter from people putting the oil filter on to tight.
5. Creeking steering has been seen due to bad bushings
6. When backing up/turning slow a pop noise from back due to front IRS bolts being to small (14mm is stock they used 12....) or bushings in irs worn
7. AC Vent rattle (not cobra specific) turn ac on to hear
8. Blower should make nearly no noise at idle, listen for bearing issues on all idlers as well
9. Ask for a full coolant flush while your at it if its at a dealership
10. Chin spoilers are known for getting hosed up and are 125+ new so if its all screwed up get them to drop the price a tad.
11. The rear spoiler's 3rd brake light is very easily broken and NOT cheap make sure its all good, not cracked (look very close at it) and make sure all LED's light up
12. Make sure you look it over and know ANY mod thats on it, measure the blower pulley, etc etc know if any mods were done. Look under it all that as well.

At 45k it should be pretty good. ALWAYS get a dyno tune after you buy one to ensure your good never assume. I would also make them do a leak down test on compression to ensure its good to go and change plugs while they are at it (the 22's are second run plugs not the first run. There are 3 sets get the right one). Thats most of it, im sure its all good though.

Re: What to look for?

yea, if you get a bad vibe do NOT jump into it and drive off home lol. I know its tuff to say no when its looking right at you and it can be yours today, not next month when another one surfaces... but keep a cool head... dont let them know you really want the car, and when the right one comes along you will know it.

Most 03/04's are fine no major issues, its the beat on ones that really have problems. You can tell if a car has been abused, it should have no bug spots on it from neglect (or very few) not many rock chips, rubber should not be all up in the fender well, and other things like this.

Re: What to look for?

I been looking at this car and 2 days ago they lowered the price 3g's. So I'm thinking now may be a good time to get into another Cobra.

Re: What to look for?

for the miles on it, it should probably be around 18k-19k~ if its perfect condition a touch more.. im not as good at pricing 04s. if it was an 03 it would be 17k~

Re: What to look for?

After I posted the last time I was going to see the car but someone bought it before I got there. The dealer had the price at 18,999 then lowered it to 15990. It lasted three days before it was sold.
