Meth injection

I have a 98 GT that puts down 330whp and my people have told me not to push a 4.6L bottom end to much futher because it is weak. The other day my buddies told me i should do a meth injection kit in my car, so i was looking on line and i see gains of up to 125whp. So i said No because i dont want me engine to blow up. Then one of my guys tells me meth would be safe because it make the engine inlet air cooler and cooler air will be easy on my engine and i'll have nothing to worry about.
Your guys thoughts on this would be appriciated??

Re: Meth injection

the claims of 125 hp are for forced induction cars using turbos or centri style super chargers with tune upgrades to fully utilize the added cooling effect by adding timing and what not.

They are correct in that it will give you a level of knock protection as it will lower your intake temps. You won't see a lot of gains in power from it until you get your car tuned to utilize the cooler temps by upping the timing and what not.

All in all, if your car is running fine now and not pushing the limits of your car tune wise, I don't see where putting meth on there is going to be all that beneficial for you. Keep in mind also that you will have the continued expense of having to refill the meth just like you would with nitrous.

Re: Meth injection

as far as the internals the limit is about 425-450 at the crank is the breaking limit, although there are a few guys that are running a little more than that granted its on borrowed time. i would not run anywhere on or over it with the hypercraptastic internals unless u wanna see glory holes in the block.

Re: Meth injection

i run methanol/water injection on my car. it works very well.i doubt you're going to see gains that high but it does lower intake temps and can indirectly raise fuel octane (based on meth mix). another thing not mentioned if how methanol injection raises cylinder pressure.

thats such a broad thing to say. 450 flywheel? 450 dynojet? conditions?
power limitations more have to do with driver habits IMO. of course each engine does have limitations but how is it, theres stock 5.0 shortblock (hyper engines no-less) going in the 9's and then you have other breaking in the 12's. theres just so many variables that go into the breaking points of engines.
just sayin'

Re: Meth injection

^^^ And don't forget the tune...everything depends on a good, reliable tune....and the quality of gas. Everything could be great and then you get a bad batch of gas and boom.

And I agree, on your car meth is a great idea to keep things cool since you are non-intercooled and vorteched. Plus, you updated your tuning for the meth as well I'm sure...so you're taking full advantage of it.

yep. meth dropped my IAT"s by roughly 40 degrees. you gotta play with pump pressure, jetting , and the boost switch a good bit to get it right. i was happy with my results. a solid 40 rwhp gain. i picked up 5 mph in the 8th.

Vortec S/C, intercooled, PI intake. dynoed at 301 without the PI so im guessin the intake helped maybe not 30hp but there was a nticable difference.
