1997 Cobra tranny problems

I have a transmission problem that I dont know what to do with. Ive changed the fluid and filter and replaced gasket and still wont take off in drive. It will go in reverse all day long but once you shift down past neutral theres no response whatsoever. Is this a problem i should start out at the torque converter with or what? Please help!! At the time it started messing up, there was a bad leak around the pan gasket and they may have drove it with the fluid level a little too low. Would that cause the fluid in the t.c to be loss as well? Somebody please point me in the right direction....... forgot to mention, i believe its a 4r70w

Re: 1997 Cobra tranny problems

when you first put fluid in a transmission you have to cycle it and it takes a TON of fluid as well it takes a bit, if after this it still wont shift into gear its gotta be the valve body or the tq converter~ or the trans linkage is not engaging it right~

on a side note, I take it you put the auto in the car since cobras do not have auto transmissions from the factory?

Re: 1997 Cobra tranny problems

this is just the way i got it when i bought it. it also came with a 5-speed in the trunk of it with no bell housing/clutch fork/pressure plate but i think its a T45 which i think came in the V6, right? i know it originally had a 5-speed cause the clutch pedal is in it and you still have to press it to start it. would the valve body need to be completely replaced or what? thank you very much for your assistance

bump with alot of oil, it take about two gallions if bone dry but if your pan was leaking the oil will stay in the converter even if it all leaks out of the pan.
I have a 97 Cobra and they came with T-45's, and it sound like you burn up your tranny running it with out oil.
