Re: installing new 3.73 gears
Yea, make sure it is done correctly. I bought a SRA from a buddy for my 2001 that had just had a COMPLETE rebuild with all new races, bearings, shims, diff, spider gears... etc, etc, etc.
After about 800 miles on the SRA I was driving down the road and my wheels locked up, released, and started making some noise. Tore the cover off to find my spider gears cracked. the local shop who did the rebuild refused to even look at it b/c our cars were modified. So as I disassembled the broken differential, I checked everything and finally found that they had left about 0.050 worth of shims out from behind the spider gears on both sides. My spider gears had separated a total 0.10 wiggled around , caught themselves in a bad position, locked up, cracked, and released. it Bent the splines on my axles and cracked my gears. I rounded up new parts and fixed it myself. My buddy paid $750 that was a waste...
