First time Mustang buyer, advice wanted

Hey guys I’m new to the forum here and wanted to say hello and ask a couple questions. I apologize in advance if this question gets asked all the time! The last couple months I’ve been researching my next purchase and I’ve decided to purchase a 4th gen “new edge” mustang. I'm looking at purchasing a 99-01 manual GT with higher mileage, though I’d like to keep the mileage not much above 100k(under would be great but I have around 6k). I know some of these cars are driven pretty hard so I was hoping to find out what to look for when inspecting these cars for abuse or racing? I will not be racing this car, and I won’t be putting tons of miles on it either, maybe 100 a week. Also are there any specific maintenance procedures that I should try and find out if they’ve been done on a GT with mileage around 100k? Thank you for any advice, it’s a major purchase for me and I want to make sure I do it right.

When you check one out that u like just test drive it listen for noises that shouldn't be there and make sure at some point you put the pedal to the floor. Also check for leaks. If there seems to be no problem i'd go for it.

the cars run great for a LONG time its all about how you take care of it that really matters.

regular oil changes, changing all fluid on time (yup more to change than JUST oil) and the filters regularly (oil, fuel filter et) and not beating on the car everytime you drive it will make it last a very long time

I know to check for leaks and abnormal noises, that's good to do with any used car, I guess what I meant ask is if there are any systemic problems with the 4.6 L V8 to specifically be on the lookout for?

Check the bolts/supports where the throttle body connects to the intake.
My buddy bought an 01 2v and we didn't notice the crack in the intake until we were putting on a CAI 5 months later.

The top right bolt closest to the IAC threads into an enclosed hole. This was the bolt that caused the crack.

I don't think it is common for them to do that, but the previous owner probably torqued the screw in too tight when he put on a t/b spacer.

I would make sure the engine can handle a few Rev Limiter Bounces before purchasing. Rule of thumb I always check. 3-5 secs at full throttle.

Re: First time Mustang buyer, advice wanted

Thanks for the input. I've ran across more then a couple cars that have installed Roush body kits with the side exhaust kit. I checked a couple websites but I was unable to verify the HP increase this Roush exhaust set up adds? I did see one website selling the exhaust kit and they claimed it adds HP but they provided no numbers. I'm weary of buying a car with a bodykit (accidents) but some are sold new this way so I wanted to ask.
