shift points for saving gas

ok i got a 5 speed 1998 gt and am very short on money and am wondering what is the best time to shift using rpms. i've heard don't go past 2,000rpm

For 2002 the owner's manual advises
2nd gear: 10 mph
3rd: 20
4th: 30
5th: 40

I know it's not RPM's but shifting around 2k will be around the same, especially for lower gears.

not sure on rpm's but shift as soon as possible, it is better to downshift than to keep pressing on the gas

I usually go to about 6K in 1st then shift all the way to 6th.???

just shift as soon as you can into the next gear so when in the next gear the car isnt bogged down, probably around 2000 rpms maybe a bit more in first~ say 2250 or so
