POSSIBLE NEW ENGINE

My freind who is a big mustang man is taking out an engine of one of his freinds new edge mustangs. I guess one of the piston rings went out and needs new bearings. He said I could probably get it for under 200 dollars since the guy is putting in a brand new complete long block. He said i'd get everything from the intake down to the oil pan. I plan on putting it on my dad's engine stand and just cleaning it very well and put the ring and bearings in myself. Anyone with advice tips and opinions will be apppreciated.

Re: POSSIBLE NEW ENGINE

well this would be a perfect time to install cams and possibly heads. it is definitely easier to time the motor with it out of the vechile, i did mine while it was in the car, but a little more space would have been helpful. themustangdepot.com has some good prices on 4.6 internal parts.

If you decide you don't want it, let me know  Other than that it would be a great time to take it slow and build it up

to install a stroker kit, u will have to get the block stripped down and machined so all the parts will fit and work correctly. u can get a block machined for a decent price.

Re: POSSIBLE NEW ENGINE

i would have the machine work professionally done to make sure everything is lined up, especially a high revving mod motor.

Re: POSSIBLE NEW ENGINE

make sure you look at the stroker kit... some are designed for over bored cylinders, basically you'll have to take the block in and get it surfaced ne way (i think thats what its called) and if the cylinders are crap than have it bored out and than get a stroker kit for that...

Re: POSSIBLE NEW ENGINE

depends on how much you bore it and what stroker kit you get for it or if you leave it stock... but i won't be able to tell you those #s or what is a good kit cause its a newer engine that i haven't researched that much, but i'm sure someone has some good info on this...
