Rear Passenger power window motor failure

1999 Covertable
Rear window stuck in down position. No sound when button pushed. What should I troubleshoot. How do I gain access to the motor?

Re: Rear Passenger power window motor failure

I would check a fuse first. If there is no sound it could either mean there is no power going to the motor or the motor is broken. However, usually if it is broken you hear a clicking noise or it trying to work anyway. Does the same window make noise when you press it down? What about each of the other windows? Do they go down? Do they go up? IF they don't work do you still hear the motor running?

Access to the motor will most likely be the rear side panel removed, possibly the rear seats. The pieces are bulky but it shouldn't be that hard of a job. You can do it in your driveway in an afternoon.

the panels are pretty easy to get off, find an installation how to on a light bar, you have to take off the panels for that same basic thing to gain access.

Re: Rear Passenger power window motor failure

Thanks guys. Shortly after posting I got inpatient and tore into it. Took out the back seat, bench, side panel, speaker and motor cover. Found the motor was getting voltage but wouldnt go up. Took the motor out and the motor would spin to lower the window but not raise it. Took the motor apart and verified I was getting +12v (up) and -12V (down) at the output of the regulator. Took the brushes off and cleaned them and the armature. Re assembled and everything works. Took me about an hour to disassemble and 20 minutes to reassemble. The motor is very basic and super heavy duty. I hope this helps the next person lookin to save themselves 400 bucks

Yeah man very nice. Sometimes the biggest problems we would expect turn out to be the simplest.
