02 Life Expectancy

How long can you expect a Ford GT 02 too last? I heard 150,000 miles the car start having major issues. Post here what you know of other stangs and how long they have lasted.

Re: 02 Life Expectancy

There are a handful of mod motors well over 200,000. It's all a matter of regular maintenance.

Mileage is just a number for the most part. I dd a vehicle with 204,000, my work truck has 206,000 and I would trust it anywhere in this country.

Re: 02 Life Expectancy

My '03 has 111k, and I've had no major problems so far (knock on wood). Just basic stuff like clutches, plugs and wires, etc.

Oh and one alternator... Damn thing...

Re: 02 Life Expectancy

its all about how you take care of the car, You can probably get 200k out of it or more if you take care of it... no I dont mean just change the oil filter and air filter now and again lol. Its far more than that.

transmission fluid yearly
coolant every 20k
power steering fluid every 5 years
brake fluid every 5 years
air filter regularly (replace or clean depending on what you have)
fuel filter every year
fuel injection cleaner every oil change at least

and other things that have to be done to correctly maintain a car, I am not saying it wont last if you dont do this but... it cant hurt to take care of the car.

another thing is how you drive it. you should let it warm up before you hammer on it and dont beat on it all the time etc etc

Re: 02 Life Expectancy

yea also note that the mustang is cheap and easy to work on and you can do a lot yourself or pay someone much less to fix than some import car.

I'll be changing mine out to some TR6's here soon...it's nothing to it on these cars, easier than a LS series.

The plugs in my V6 are probably easier to get to than those on your V8, but honestly the biggest problem I had was grinding my arm against the damn exhaust insulation. It's fiberglass (or something similar) and holy hell did my arm itch like crazy for a couple of days...

Good luck!

Re: 02 Life Expectancy

Mine has 178,000 and ran great right up until the time it quit. I was pulling out onto the freeway, hit passing gear, and parts began to separate. These pictures are with 175,000 miles on it.

It's taken a year to get all the parts together and the short block built. But it's going to be worth it. Teksid aluminum block, 5.0 Stroker, all forged, Cushman cams, Patriot Stage 2 Heads, Edelbrock Victor Jr. Intake.

Now I need to sell the red 1992 GT.

Jim

Re: 02 Life Expectancy

mine has a little over 123k on it and i drive the absolute piss out of it. havn't had a single issue yet, well i take that back..... ive went through tires left and right. change the oil every 2300 or so miles. i always let car warm up for 10-15min or until at operating temp. really as stated by others it's areally a matter of keeping up with your car in every aspect. if u start to notice anything out of the ordinary act fast befor a major problem can have a chance to arise. we have a 97 mustang GT at work with over 180k on it and it runs and drives great. but there is always gonna be that chance something will break. if something is gonna break....it's break.
