Looking for advice

I just bought a 04 gt. I'm just looking for some ideas for some engine upgrades. I don't know what's best to do first. New injectors, cams, headers, anyone with input feel free to suggest

Re: Looking for advice

What do you want to accomplish?

A few basic mods to get you started:

Gears - No HP added, but you will have more low end power. 4.10s are popular but I prefer 3.73 for a better balance. Gears will throw your speedo off.

Tune - You can pick up a Diablo or SCT handheld tuner for a few hundred dollars. I prefer the SCT. This will allow you to advance your timing as well as compensate your speedo for your new gear ratio. "If you mod to the point of needing a dyno tune your tuner will use this device to load your tune." Consider what your local guy is using when you make this purchase to avoid having to sell it and buy a different kind later on.

Shifter - The stock shifter sucks. Drive a friends car to feel the difference. There are several brands available.

Intake - Exhaust : These give you more sound than power but it all adds up. A better breathing engine will perform better all around. H-pipe for deeper muscle car sound. X-pipe for raspy.

These are a good start and other than the intake possibly being replaced if you go forced induction you won't be buying parts now just to purchase different parts later.

Enjoy your car

Re: Looking for advice

Keep in mind that bolt on modifications will not add much of anything. Most less than 10 hp. Doing them all will help no doubt just make sure you know what gains will be and not what manufactures claim.

the best bang for the buck would be gears probably, then if an auto a tuner (but tuners are best when you have all your mods) and not just a mail order tuner, you need a dyno tune at a local tune place.

a short throw shifter if it is a manual is a MUST they make all the difference in enjoying driving the car. Oh ... exhaust lol probably the first thing as you get sound, a little performance, and looks.

Re: Looking for advice

as spector said don't get a handheld tuner. They use those tunes to "fit" all cars, and not all engines are the same by any means. A custom tune is for your car only. If you want about a 5 car length improvement i'd go gears exhuast short throw shifter and a good tune.

Re: Looking for advice

hand helds are the best way to go but only with a custom tune

Re: Looking for advice

What kind of exhaust have you heard sounds good. I was thinking maybe magnaflow I see you have borla but I dont know. And on short throws is there a good type to look for. I found some Motive performance 3.73 gears for 179.99 do you know anything about those.

Re: Looking for advice

05+ differs as the mufflers are in the back, ive not heard to many other than borla/ford racing

for gears i would only go ford racing, some other brands are more prone to gear whine

Re: Looking for advice

Ok they had the ford racing ones too and they were 10 bucks less. Would you put 3.73 or 4.10
Around here it seems like everyone puts flowmaster on theirs so thats why I didnt know if there was a major difference between those and borla

Re: Looking for advice

I like borla due to they are small and round, flowmasters dont flow very well. i would personally go with another more free flowing brand.

3.73 for a daily driver that is manual, if auto 4.10s
