Clutch smell issue

Ok so I was on this very steep hill and I stalled. There were a bunch of cars behind me and honking, I usually don't stall it was just that I was listening to music and lost focus, so i paniced and tried to get off of 1st gear by letting off the clutch more than usual and I guess i gave it TOO MUCH GAS and smoke started coming out and i smelled a burning smell by my clutch. Now when I drive I feel like it takes longer for the car to engage and move,

so did i just completely destroy my clutch!? Some people told me the smell will go away and its just that you damaged your clutch, but its not completely worn out.

Re: Clutch smell issue

It should be ok. Have you let it cool all the way down and drive normal again? It shouldn't be damaged too terribly.

I smoked the hell out of my stock clutch a few weeks before pulling it out and you can't point out a hot spot on this thing. They're tougher than you think.

Re: Clutch smell issue

if it only happens in a given gear its probably not the clutch but the trans. if you slipped your clutch a little much it may have glazed it some, it might wear out over time~ as long as its working dont worry so much about it.

Re: Clutch smell issue

oh ok, i just woke up and its been well over 10 hours since i drove my car. I will have to drive it again and see if 1st gear is still taking as long as it was to hook up.

Re: Clutch smell issue

just pretend you didn't do anything and just drive it normal for a week and see how it does...

i was on a very steep hill with my little protege and did the same thing trying to not role back, clutch smelled very bad, but i drove it back down the same hill after about 20 min of cool down and about 5-10 miles back home, and it was fine. that clutch still works to this day (that was like 3 yrs or so ago) and taught my wife how to drive a manual with it, still no problems.

Re: Clutch smell issue

Stalling is something I have done every few days. I've only had my car a few weeks but I have driven everything from imports to 18 wheelers and have never had this problem. I also have a '87 F-150 4 speed and have never had this happen. Guess it just takes time to get used to this car. Maybe I need to learn to drive all over again.
