Too much trouble?

I bought a longblock for 200 bucks. There is a possiblity of the block being cracked if so i will get my money back. What all would it take to put a 5.0 in the car. I know I'll need a new bellhousing but what else would neet to be done? Its a 2002 gt 5 speed.

Re: Too much trouble?

lookin for power mainly. But i started this engine while it was in the car and u can hear a lil tick when it starts. And the guy said when he take out the dipstick after it had been runnin smoke came out which probably means there is a bad piston ring. But after start up it ran ok. What do u think the chances are of the block being cracked

Re: Too much trouble?

i wouldn't guess the block to be cracked, probably a gasket or ring, i'm guessing you'll need a new k-member (not 100% sure which part that is... but on the 94-98 it is different from the 5.0 to the 4.6, and i don't know which the 3.8 uses...) depending what comes on the engine you'll be looking at all of your efi stuff unless your going with a carb, you'll need a 5.0 comp (not really all that hard to find...)

did the block have any power adders on it? i don't really wanna say "oh it will be ok, just use it" cause i don't know the history of the engine. what year car was this in?

you might need new springs cause of the weight difference (you have the v6 correct?)

new radiator hoses... probably not the most expensive part on the list, but you'll need different ones. I'm just trying to think of anything else different, ill probably remember a little later on.
