Temp Gauge not working?

Hi all!!,
New to this website it looks great!! I recently baught a 1996 GT Convertable. 4.6l and the temp gauge isnt working. I replaced the sending unit on the top of the motor but it still isnt working. I was told there might be two sending units. Is this true? and if so ware is the second and what is the part # if you know? Thanks for your help in advance.

Re: Temp Gauge not working?

you can check the cluster as its pretty easy to get out, just two screws facing upwards above the gauges and they pop out. Then the bolts holding the cluster in (4 of them).

The headlight knob is the only gotcha to the removal..... its a nightmare lol you need a bent nail and you have to pull the metal slit you can see in the slot toward you and then pull the knob to slide it off.

Re: Temp Gauge not working?

it may be a cluster issue but sensors are quite common on these cars. there are indeed to coolant temp sensors. 1 for the computer and 1 for the cluster. the one right next to the thermostat housing is for the computer. the other is toward the back of the intake, just look for it, you cant miss it. the sensor is 20$ from the dealer. i dont recommend using any other sensor but the dealer one. part number for that is F68Z-10884-AA
to test, theres a resistance value that should vary with engine temperature. im not sure of exact figures but at 20$, its worth a shot.

Re: Temp Gauge not working?

Looks like it could be the gauge it self on the dash. I replaced the correct sensor for the gauge and it still dosent work. I also grounded out the gauge to see if the gauge would jump or move and it still didnt work or move. any other suggestions? any one know ware I can get a factory gauge from? Ebay dosent have any.

you can check the needle, if it has aftermarket gauge covers it may be that its to tight and it wont move~ ive seen this happen
