Short throw shifter

I just installed my hurst short throw. I have the 3650 tranny that uses that lil plastic piece. It came with it cuz i guess the stock black ones have been wearing out. It didn't look the same and didn't "stick" on. I just put it on and it would stay on a lil bit then i stuck it down in there. I don't know if its supposed to stay on tight to the lil ball at the end or if it just kinda sits in there but it seems like the shifter always wants to go right. Like if im shifting from 1st to second it will want to pull into 4th gear. If i pay attention to what i'm doing ill hit 2nd everytime but not as smooth as stock. Could that lil plastic piece be messing it up?

Re: Short throw shifter

you can reuse the stock part if its not worn I would guess. I dont know how hurst shifters are so I cant tell you if its operating correctly. I dont think that little plastic cup ball is causing any issues with what you are describing. That is related to the spring pressure of the shfter.

Re: Short throw shifter

i just installed my mgw shifter this weekend...i know exactly what you are talking abt ...it might be different but heres the thing on the shifter itself there should be two bolts that are on the top and bottom of the whole shifter...you have to goto 3rd gear and push in the bolt till it hits the shifter...than goto 4th and push the bolt same way in and it should hit it all the way in....i had the same problem and when i fixed the bolts all the way in from 3rd and 4th gear they worked fine...try it and tell me whts up
oh and the ittle plastic peice at the bottem just stick on it..i doubt thats the problem

Re: Short throw shifter

Well i have the adjustable stops well adjusted. I put on the stock plastic and it seems to be workin a lil better. The instructions said somewhere something about adjusting tension. Is that just meaning the stops or are there some other bolts.

Re: Short throw shifter

Out of curiousity, what made you decide on Pro-50? ANd the tension is adjusted elsewhere, not by the shift stops.

Re: Short throw shifter

lol i know what you mean. I got it cuz its a good brand i know mgw is better but its still a good shifter without a doubt and its what they put in the badass 60's and 70's muscle cars. So basically for the name lol.

Re: Short throw shifter

you may have a way to release pressure on the springs making it not as "springy" as you shift through the gears~ not sure on Hurst. The shift stops are pretty much worthless, make SURE they are not close to touching the shift lever.

Re: Short throw shifter

My Pro5.0 is set to always go into neutral whenever no engaged in gear. I don't know how that compares to stock or the problems you are experiencing. Mostly just a FYI.
