Exhaust questions

Gonna put a set of headers and hi flow xpipe on my 02 gt. Is this emissions legal in CA? I will be moving to CA this summer and need it to stay legal. Whats the difference between shorty's and equal length? Is it worth the extra cash for equals?

2002 Mustang GT, 5-speed, torch red. K&N, 3.73 gears, flowmaster cat back, and lots of love.

1991 5.0 lx conv. auto, black. Full saleen body kit, cold air intake, msd ignition, flowmasters, off road h-pipe, underdrive pulleys, trickflow intake, trickflow stage 1 cam, 190 lph fuel pump, 30 lbs injectors, 73mm mass air.

I like my ford racing shorty headers however the BBK equal lenghts have proven a little bit more bottom end..
FRPP shorties = ~1-2 HP and lb-ft loss bottom end on dyno but above 3500 RPM gained a peak of 7 HP and 6 lb-ft, no SOP difference personally but I somehow almost broke 100 MPH at the track with just those and a short throw shifter

however they did improve the sound, big time
I have a stock exhaust setup and I've had people come up to me ask what I've got done to the exhaust..

people ask me what header/mid pipe/cat back I have on my 88 lol..i just now put my o/r h in today and headers are sitting next to me in the basement. I guess they are used to the usual 2 chamber sound and not 1 chamber muahaha

From all reports I have seen and heard its a real pain in the rear to install headers on a 4.6L Mustang. I dont' have a thing on mine but stock manifolds, a Mac H with 2 high flow cats and a 3" Cobra Ford Racing Catback, I would not want it to be any louder, I couldn't stand it myself if it were. I have actually thought about switching it to a 2.5" catback because it is so loud.

it is a major paint, but can be done... probably be easier pulling the motor up a bit or droping it down.
