Re: fuel filter help?

Fuel pump fuse is in the box in the engine compartment.

Diagram is in your owners manual.

Re: fuel filter help?

ok i pulled the fuse earlier, and crawled up under the car and i can't get the fittings loose. Is there a special trick to getting the connections loose, how do you use the little things( you probably know what im talking about) but do they just clip on to the fuel filter than you push them up into the fitting? anyways i can't get it loose. when i did my last car they popped right off.i don't know if its just being difficult. or if its just me

Re: fuel filter help?

you need a fuel line disconnect tool. A couple of bucks at the parts store.

Re: fuel filter help?

why did you need to take the fuel pump relay fuse out?

you know the car won't maintain fuel pressure when its not running..

Re: fuel filter help?

Don't know you can relieve system pressure through the schreader valve on the fuel rail.

Re: fuel filter help?

Yeah, what I was going to say exactly, find that shrader valve on the fuel rail, looks like a tire fill valve, get a rag to absorb any gasoline that comes out, push in the valve like you wanted to let air outta the tire, that will let off the pressure.

Re: fuel filter help?

just have something under the filter to catch fuel that is left in it. You would be suprised how much will come out of that little thing!

Re: fuel filter help?

you dont have to take the fuse out, just get "the tool" to take out the fuel filter, some special tool on the newer mustangs.

Pop it out, watch out for gas that will comeout. then put the new one in, and turn car on to check for leaks.

Keep the gas in your filter so you can poor it out to look at it see how bad it is.

Re: fuel filter help?

didn't know about the valve on the fuel rail...thats kinda cool. I have the special tool needed, I just cant seem to get it to disengage, but a friend came over and helped me out. apparently there was some dirt in the fitting or something? but the new one is on and the fuel coming out of the filter was dirty!!!yuck!
thanks for all the info guys!

Re: fuel filter help?

Yeah, I changed mine when I swapped fuel pumps and it was pretty dirty in there, I don't think it had been changed yet and I had 62K miles.

Re: fuel filter help?

haha leave it pressurized.. helps on one side, just shield it with a rag or something.. helps pop it off with the tool..
